|
|
| one of the great joys of my day was waking up, grabbing a cup of coffee and checking e-mail, eagerly scanning for the most recent sinfest comic. it just starts your day off right. and then it disappeared with the new website. does anyone know if it will ever return??? |

Is it really that hard to just go to the site?
You can even just make a shortcut and drag it down to your taskbar, then it's always just one click away. _________________ "Her kisses left something to be desired -- the rest of her. " |

| Have a good friend send 'em to you. Or, if you've got a computer at home, just avert your eyes and send it to yourself so you can read it fresh during your lunch break or something. |

Actually I thought about that lately and wrote a little script some days ago that grabs the cartoon for that date and mails it to a given address:
| Code: |
#!/bin/bash
# This script requires mutt to be installed...
# Enter the address you want the cartoon being mailed to:
email_addr="sinfest@example.com"
# The subject of the mail:
email_subj="Today's SINFEST cartoon"
# And an optional text that appears in the mail:
email_body="Here's today's cartoon. Have fun... blabla."
#Don't change anything below... unless you want to.
#enter the workdir
pushd /tmp > /dev/null
#generate URL of today's cartoon
cartoon_pref="http://www.sinfest.net/comikaze/comics/"
cartoon_suff=".gif"
cartoon_url="$cartoon_pref`date +%Y-%m-%d`$cartoon_suff"
#download the cartoon
wget $cartoon_url
#mail the cartoon to specified address
echo "$email_body" | mutt -s $email_subj -a `date +%Y-%m-%d`$cartoon_suff $email_addr
#cleanup and return to where we came from
rm `date +%Y-%m-%d`$cartoon_suff
popd > /dev/null
|
The script needs bash and the Mutt mail-client to run, i.e. Linux or something like MinGW or cygwin under Windows. Then you need a cronjob or the windows scheduler to run the script once daily and all should work fine. |

| I really don't need the email thing. After years of reading anywhere from 20 to 40 different online comics, I'm a pro at checking the updates. |

| it's not so much a need to have auto e-mail delivery, in fact i don't mind checking every morning, but it was a nice little feeling to wake up and have a new e-mail with the subject line of sinfest. i was more just wondering if it tat was interested in bringing it back. |

it's actually more accurate to say that it's slurped to your friend's live journal page, not "delivered", yes?
not so much that the comic makes an effort but that your friend's live journal page pursues and extracts, as opposed to passively receiving?
isn't it true your friend's live journal actually sucks? |

Yeah, there are two lj feeds for sinfest. They've even started posting his notes on one of them. _________________ "Her kisses left something to be desired -- the rest of her. " |
