Glad I checked in early. Awesome Sunday. I look forward to them all week and this one does not disappoint. I love how Tat has subtly tied in some previous stories into the strip. Good stuff. |

He is because it is true, without one to define the other, the other does not exist. |

Love the kanji; them fun.
A little goof : Gautama and Dragon play Japanese chess instead of Chinese one (pieces are giveaway) . _________________ 我的氣墊船裝滿了鱔魚 |

Since when has shogi been played on a 12x12 board?
Anyway, everyone knows the true game of enlightenment is Go http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_%28board_game%29 _________________ To avoid criticism, do nothing, say nothing, be nothing. - Elbert Hubbard, US author (1856 - 1915) |

@Snorri, try kanjidic maybe (lots of others, depending on how you wish to appreciate the art ..)
, don't believe there's a babelfish for this and if there is it's likely as subtly wrong as it is for everything else

The characters are Chinese characters. I don't know if they're used in the Japanese language for other meanings, but they're definitely in the Chinese language. The two characters in the first panel, zi4 ran2, mean "nature", or "natural". The character on the tea kettle, cha2, means (surprise!) "tea". |
