| my worst was some virus that locked my entry password to a full-on reboot, and nothing I could do about it. Lost EVERYTHING, and fought it for basically a month. |

I was dual booting Linux Slackware and Win2k. Decided to get rid of Slack(fucking linux...usually not worth the hassle). I reformatted the slack partition( I thought), but actually wiped the MBR. No biggy, used the boot disks, ran the fixMBR command. Fixed the MBR, so the system could start, but it REMOVED EVERY PARTITON TABLE. As this was occuring, one of my hard drive was failing and nearly killed my friend by arcing from the hdd case, through his body, and to the processor heatsink, which he just happened to be resting his wrist against. Motherboard dead. Processor dead. Memory dead. Hdd dead. All data gone.
I think Linux was just really pissed off I had decided to get rid of it, and wouldn't go down without a fight. _________________ Knowledge is Power.

Big file server at $WORK, boss on holiday half a world away, lightning storm, fried UPS, 36 disks out of a 280 disk RAID system dead (all in pairs...).
A weeks of 7:00 to 22:00 days to restore, muppet from vendor suggests wrong rebuild/restart command, another week to recover again.
Boss returns from holiday the day AFTER it is fixed.
I still keep his postcard from Ayers Rock on my office wall, it arrived the day of the crash. |
