Penguins.
McVitie's chocolate covered digestives.

But yeah, Fox's Classic Bar.

When I was in London I bought some Penguins at Sainbury's. They were the awesomest cookies hands down. Definitely get some Penguins.

They are not cookies they are biscuits. Chocolate biscuits.

Warn your friend that it is very rarely called "candy" in England, we usually just call them sweets. They used to be sold loose in "quarters", meaning a quarter of a pound (4 ounce) - http://www.aquarterof.co.uk/index.php.

My suggestions:

Jaffa cakes if you like orange and chocolate.
Devon toffee, or Thorntons special toffee.
A bag of "fun size" chocolate bars, so you get a selection of the popular minature choccy bars.
"Quality Street" bags or tins of mixed sweets (toffees, chocolates, soft centers).

You know what I haven't had in a long time, but REALLY LOVE?

Those White Rabbit candies that you get at Japanese markets. I pretty much lived off of them in France for a while. Very, very tasty.

OH MY GOD, SOMEONE JUST GAVE ME SOME ATOMIC FIREBALLS.

I totally forgot about these. And the made me think of dweebs, those are good too, and drumsticks (lollipops that have big chewy cube things on the end instead of round sucky things.)

Best of all though, were these:

They're like bars of electric sugar.

Dark Chocolate.

Pure cornsyrup.

Raw eggs mixed with tons of sugar both of the heated variety and the room temperature kind, mixed with chocolate milk powder, mixed with sweetened milk, and a bit of cinnamon. You literally can only take sips of this at a time, because it is too sweet for your mouth. Sometimes I add balsamic vinegar for an interesting taste, the sweetness overrides the vinegar.

i've had those! they are strangly desirable.

as are jelly belly's extra hot cinnamon jelly beans (they aren't called that exactly, but that' what they are).

and hot tamales - i used to get hot tamales from the food place by our old office, then they ran out and never reordered - which is probably good, or i'd probably weight around 400 lbs now.

i am soo tempted by this - but then i would probably like them, and you would have to keep supplying them, and then i would insist you provide me with other things, and eventually you would stop and i would come to england and be pounding on your door in the middle of the night, begging and threatening. it would be tragic.

I came home yesterday to find mail from England sitting on my computer chair. Let me just say I was extremely pleased to find sweets waiting for me. Thanks Halen, made my day.
