Skittles... they're like fucking skittles.

meanwhile back in Egypt..

The size of the protest is amazing, thankfully peaceful still.

Squirm Israel, squirm.

Is anyone reminded of the comedy that was the Iraqi Information Minister?

5:40pm Egyptian state television, in the last hour, has aired the following segments:

1. 1) An interview with the new prime minister to talk about the makeup and priorities of the new government.
2. 2) A walk around with Mahmoud Wagdy, the new interior minister, in the New Cairo neighbourhood, where he promoted a new initiative, "Police Serving the People".

This isn't comedy though. If anyone apart from Mubarak are going to feel the wrath of the people it's going to be the police and their friendly neighbourhood Baltaguiya.

6:27pm Following reports of looting in shops selling military clothes, the Egyptian army issues a statement warning Egyptians that there will be heavy penalties to civilians found wearing military uniforms.

He's officially not running for reelection.

I don't think that will be enough, and now that he's given this much they're liable to see his position as irreversibly weakened and demand he stand down.

Of course that's not enough. If they disperse without him having stepped down, he'll do everything in his power to hold onto some form of power after the elections. Or he'll rig the next elections making sure one of his cronies gets elected.

Not to mention that 30 years of dictatorship aren't easily forgotten.

john kerry asked that both he and his son not run for election -so sounds like his plan was for the son to take over. yeah, doubt that one will fly with the people.

now they just have to get that through mubarak's head.

Quote:
3:10am A blog post circulating on twitter, and blogosphere titled: "A Guide: How not to say stupid stuff about Egypt". The post tries to demystify some of the stereotypes about Egypt as protests continue to make international headlines. One of the more vociferous arguments is the rejection that the ongoing protests may be dubbed "The Twitter revolution".

"No, this is the Revolution of the Egyptian people. Egyptians resisted for decades. They were tortured, jailed and repressed by the Mubarak and Sadat regimes. Twitter and Facebook are tools. They did not stand in front of the water cannons, or go to jail for all these years to get the credit"

I don't know about everyone else but I've heard some really amazing xenophobic bullshit over here about this situation.

Haven't heard anything "xenophobic" but then again I haven't been around my former coworkers or listening to anything from Fox News.

On the topic of terminology, I absolutely hate the way some media groups are using the word 'contagion' to describe what's happening in the Middle East, as if this movement is a spreading disease that must be quashed.

What does that remind me of? AH YES

Lucky you. Aus is on another 'stop the boat people' crusade again, which basically boils down to no Middle Easteners.

The desire for freedom does have a tendency to spread rapidly, much like a highly infectious disease.
