I don't care how shot by crazy people your wife is, there is no too much shot by crazy people who shot you in the head that would stop me going in to space. Crazy people could shoot any amount of women in the head and I would still go in to space. Actually, it's a likely condition of my Court Ordered punishment that I be fired in to space for going crazy / shooting spacemen's lady wives / women in the brain.
And remember that when I am the first person on Mars. Cherchez La Femme, indeed.
