New forum member. My brief bio: male, 32 years old., married with 2 very young kids, mountainboarder. Sinfest reader for past 4 or so years.
Today's color Sunday strip compelled me to register on the forums, though I've read through them on a couple dull nights of insomnia.
What I found striking about today's strip is when the two angelic kids hold the gospel book and the lil' evil kid holds Nerconomicon and the Origin of Species, my jaw just about dropped because I did the same thing with Necronomicon once to a pair of Jehovah's Witnesses that came to my door!
When I was a year or two into college my doorbell rang and these Johos wanted to show me thier literature. I asked them to hold on for a second, rummaged through my dusty bookshelf and grabbed my old copy of Necronomicon. I told them I wanted to share some literature with them and I traded books.
They never came back.
I can't believe I just saw this portayed in my favorite comic. My wife (another Sinfest fan) knows the story too and I can't wait until she reads todays strip.

More than the obvious symmetry between kid evil and God boy, this comic illustrates that they are similar in another way: neither is sincere. They are both trying to please their idols by mimicing them on a superficial level and basically aquiring the merchandising (evil flakes/chromium bibles) of each. Real evil is what the devil does on his walks, whispering words of encouragement towards evil acts into people's ears and offering the pleasures of the world for people's souls. This, as with the rest of Sinfest, is a reflection of reality in that there are God boys in most every church and kid evils on many streets in America's cities. While I don't want more genuinely evil people in the world , I have zero respect for people who are faking piety or evil because we are how we act. _________________ Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. -- Frederick Douglass |

Like Brack Daddy; I was inspired to register after reading today's comic.
Granted, I haven't done my civic duty by discouraging door to door religion peddlers...
It's simply time for me to jump inside the fishbowl and stop being a voyeur of the Sinfest community.
I am impressed that Li'l Evil was able to get ahold of a 3-headed pup, and appreciate the subtlety in his 7:06 wake-up alarm. |

Well, I particularly like the time his alarm rings. I always thought I was alone coming up with that idea. |

Idolatry, which is defined as the worshp of an image or idea in place of god is only part of it. What I was looking for was what I said: insincere action. As seen in previous comics, the actions of the young fans are frequently annoying and, more importantly, counter-productive to their objects of worship becuase of their superficiality. _________________ Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. -- Frederick Douglass |

Ahh, but acquiring merchandise of your idol is commercialistic, which, as we all know, is true evil. |

Why do you scorn Li'l Evil's choice to follow his idol? He's not doing it for any reward; he's merely trying to walk in the Devil's footsteps as best he knows how. Why would he do it besides liking evil and wanting to do it more perfectly? You could make an argument that his counterpart is just doing it to get into Heaven, but I don't see how you would argue the reverse. _________________
