A heretic can only be heretical with respect to orthodoxy. As there is no central authority for all of Christianity to define orthodoxy, we probably shouldn't be too casual in naming people heretics.
"Finite hell" isn't really that rare of a position. An eternal hell would obviously be incompatible with universalism and annihilationism, both of which have plenty of supporters nowadays, as well as back in the first couple of centuries postChrist, before Catholicism did its best to make itself the One True Faith. _________________ "To love deeply in one direction makes us more loving in all others."
