A few years ago I watched Galen Rupp run a 10k at a big track meet down in Eugene. It was pretty cool to watch him win the first American medal in the 10k since 1964.

Rupp's the same age as me. There were actually a few races, when I was running in college, that we were both in. I won't say I raced against him, because the difference between us would make that silly, but I've loosely followed his career. Guy is unbelievable.

Didn't see much of the closing ceremony but what I did see, or hear to be more accurate, was good. Only caught the first hour, mind. But still, Ray Davies!! Did we find room for Jarvis Cocker? He was apparently part of the organising committee.

Anyway, the entire event has been a pleasure from beginning to end. I've heard no negativeopinions around the bar, and there's nowt more sullen and negative than a British drunk. (Belgian Biebers notwithstanding).

I did miss the first bit. I only started watching when the music started. It's just that a lot of the music was just shit. The performances, not the actual music itself (mostly - who the hell are jessi j, taio cruz and tinie tempah? also survival is a bad song)

The show itself was pretty solid throughout, however. Not even close to the opening ceremony, but decent enough. Lot's of ups and downs, all things considered. And the ups managed to keep me watching, so...

Looking forward to Rio though.

NFL apparently decided to be the no football league.

I'm furious over a silly game, but that was absurd. The owners should be ashamed of themselves.

I can't be the only one that hopes for this sport to just turn into an all out brawl. Works for Hockey.

You know... one thing I'll say about this whole officiating debacle? Normally I try my best to ignore the NFL. Now? It's gotten so bad that it's become interesting, and I'm paying attention to what's going on. It is curious that they found a way to get people like me interested, despite not normally being in their customer base.

What happened in Angle-Territory this week was great. Not the game, that was awful (in the sense that there is no drama in a blowout). But Rob Gronkowski, after mimicking (sort of) a Buckingham Palace guard in a touchdown celebration, said after the game that he was "That little nutcracker dude who's guarding the house."

Football: bringing our culture to the rest of the world.

is that what he was doing? >>

they should've played that Giants-Cowboys game in London, so that not only could we bring the drama of a close, last-second football game to the rest of the world, but we could share with the rest of the world that universal joy that every human being takes in watching the Cowboys lose

That last interception Romo threw almost made my head asplode.

Fair warning to the British Isles: a good friend of mine and I are already planning to see next year's Vikings-Steelers game in London and we will close all the pubs.

(probably not, though, because he has terrible taste in beer)
