Wet rope? Interesting.
Lately it has been insect repellant... The mosquitoes here feed on me nonstop otherwise. |
Old wives' tale, but it worked for me and my troopies in the army:
-- Use unscented soap, shampoo, etc. Unscented glycerin is good. If the smell doesn't bother you, citronella is pretty good for repelling bugs.
-- Eat citrus. Oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, etc. The bugs don't seem to like citric acid either.
-- DO NOT EAT BANANAS. Eat a banana and the skeeters will home in on you from two counties over.
When I was going into the field I stopped using scented products at least three days before I went. My bug-out (pardon the pun) kit carried a bar of glycerin soap, and a teeny bottle of shaving oil. I also started eating lots of oranges and drinking OJ. No bites. If I varied at all, tho', I got eaten alive.
Of course, YMMV. _________________ BOHICA, Latin, second person imperative of the first conjugation verb bohicō, bohicāre, bohicāvī, bohicātum “Bend over, here it comes again” |

The banana thing is because of the potassium. On that note, most sports drinks will have the same effect. _________________

Is it? I didn't know why. So would other high-potassium foods attract skitters? _________________ BOHICA, Latin, second person imperative of the first conjugation verb bohicō, bohicāre, bohicāvī, bohicātum “Bend over, here it comes again” |

for future reference - over on the top right, next to the 'edit' button, your last post should have an 'x' - for delete. i haven't paid attention to how long it sticks around - it may go away if someone posts after you. but if you notice the problem right away, you should be able to delete the 2nd post. _________________ aka: neverscared! |
