It would be a majority of the people in the state of New York, though. |
I didn't say the majority. I said a majority. 13 million of albums sold is enough to go platinum on every album which I would consider a majority of people. Besides what if half a million people bought their albums in Rhode Island? That would be the majority of people. |
This doesn't make sense. "A majority" and "the majority" mean the same thing. One is more commonly used as a singular noun and the other as a plural noun, but both mean "the greater number." In your sentence you used "a majority of people," which includes all people. But there's nothing suggesting the number of people who are Incubus fans is greater than those who aren't, even though they're popular and sell a lot of albums.

Okay.
Quote: | Regardless Incubus is a popular band. A great many people enjoy their music. For you to call them bad is just one persons opinion vs the many who find them good. |
If you'd said "a great many people" you'd have been right and we wouldn't be having this chat. _________________ "Worse comes to worst, my people come first, but my tribe lives on every country on earth. I’ll do anything to protect them from hurt, the human race is what I serve." - Baba Brinkman |

So. There are a lot of bands that changed their images over time. |

Personally for my part I don't give two shits if the band is 'tweeny' or 'crap compared with other bands'. I'm not comparing them with other bands. I linked the song because I was referring to something in the comic. But as I said I have a wide and varied taste in music and I basically like what I like. If you don't like what I like thats also fine, you don't have to like everything everyone else likes. It's not even like Incubus are my fave band in the entire world or anything. But I don't go 'Oh crap not listening to this shit' when they come on the radio or tv either. Their music is background noise to me mostly and it fits in with other bands that I like. I only linked the song because of the comic. That was all. And honestly as far as musical taste goes it could be worse. I could be a Beiber fan Now THAT is tweeny crap. In my opinion. But of course there are those who believe differently and whilst I personally think they are insane I can live with the fact there are other musical opinions than mine. I seem to have somehow upset a bunch of people and started a musical taste war by doing so however. Apologies for that not the intent. |

Also, there is this WHOLE list of things called "cognitive biases" (we're familiar with you views on psychology, but bear with me) and in response to this:

I love this part btw. I really do. |
You do realize to be popular a majority of people must like their music. Just because you find something bad doesn't make it bad. If thousands and thousands of people enjoy their music what makes your opinion any more valid?
|
Yeah, we can thank Clear Channel, or "I 'heart' Radio", or what ever other dumbshit name they use, for basically forcing people to listen to songs so much that they start to like them. It's called the mere exposure effect.
You know when people say 'I didn't like that song at first, but after hearing it so much it grew on me.' That's the mere exposure effect, and it's made mainstream music quantifiably, objectively shittier, or at the very least it's made it more bland. _________________ ...if a single leaf holds the eye, it will be as if the remaining leaves were not there.

I'm not upset that anyone likes it, seriously, like whatever you want. I just expressed my opinion and Ember tried to crawl up my bunghole over it. I am not the one jumping up someones bunghole for expressing their opinion of a band here. _________________

Eh I don't really listen to the radio all that often anymore, but I can see your point. Although when I hear a song too much usually I get more annoyed/bored with it than like it more usually. But that's just me. |

I'm confused how someone who pays more tax and has a better paying job than anyone else on the forum has such an awful taste in music. |

The best music is no music.
I don't care how good the song is, if you have super sensitive ears: everything is too damned loud. Then I forget that your neighbors are pro-war and that is why you are so obligated to allow your citizens to be accustomed to loud noises, pollution and un-muted commercials. |

You won't find too many people who agree with you. Music is loved by most, and it's been around for thousands and thousands of years. If your ears are sensitive turn it down. Not that difficult a concept. |

Say Ember, I'm not sure how familiar you are with Mikewee, but...well, you know that old phrase "take what he says with a grain of salt?" Take Mikewee's comments with a shaker or two. _________________

that's not quite fair. taking something with a grain of salt implies that you shouldn't completely trust their veracity. i have no doubt that Mikewee is 100% truthful. it's just that he's also batshit insane.
so take him with an umbrella? or a rabies shot. _________________ aka: neverscared!
