I feel like I'm the only one that has no idea what this or your av is from? Why does Ariel look so demented? Clearly this is something I need to see. _________________ Samsally the GrayAce |

that's from a movie called The Secret of Anastasia, produced by a company that specialized in making low-budget ripoffs of much more popular and notable animated movies--in this case, of Dreamworks' Anastasia.
it is so bad it's actually kind of good and it's on Youtube and you need to watch it right now |

To me, it actually reads as being very authentic. It does take time for an individual to adjust to a new life outlook, and to integrate a new set of values or beliefs. And 'Nique has had good reason to be on guard lately. She's had precious few safe spaces with people she cares about to let the guard down, and has been carrying her burdens alone.
I'm really hoping this arc works through that, and brings her (and Slick) out to a better place. |

Here's a thought experiment (because we clearly need more of those around here): Would being the worst DEVILgirl ever make her the best devilGIRL ever?
I say yes. By being bad at being...bad, she is good.

My first tea-sputter was about 10 seconds in when they felt the need to explain to the viewer that the tsar "was like a king." Sputter number two came at 00:00:37, when they showed the "beautiful" tsarina Alexandra as a tall, long blonde-haired woman doing a cutesy pose. http://www.alexanderpalace.org/gilliard/images/alixdia.jpeg History buffs should not watch movies like this, but now I have to finish because it's just so. goddamn. bad.
I just need to make sure to delete the browser history afterwards so my 7 year old doesn't stumble across it. I was okay with her watching Underworld, but I draw the line at shitty real history. |

Like okay you had problems with the tsarina having the wrong colored hair but the fact that Anastasia's entire family was musical instruments for most of the movie goes unmentioned.
I'm giving you a bit of side eye over that. _________________ Samsally the GrayAce |

well, most of her entire family. Olga apparently didn't pick an instrument to bear her soul before she died, so, bummer for her. personally i would impute my soul into a saxophone.
although personally my favorite parts had to do with the Soviet secret police bad guy. it's how i'm going to imagine Him from now on. i'm sorry. |

Wait but she had three total sisters didn't she? So that makes two of them mysteriously never mentioned.
Also holy shit looking it up on wiki was depressing as hell. _________________ Samsally the GrayAce |

huh, never thought tat might be keeping nique alone on purpose. i guess that could be the case but there are a couple of reason's why i never gave that much thought. first tat doesn't generally isolate people unless its part of the flow of the story(i'll come back to this one). he tends to use the buddy system: D and God, Seymour and lil E, slick and nique, crim and fuchsia, the list goes on. many of the characters we've seen less frequently the last 9 months have lost their partner: Seymour, slick, and blue for instance. when tat uses solo characters he generally finds them a temp buddy or uses them in a way that ties into the current story arc. nique has been following a pattern similar to this for months now. she's become what feels like tats most used character, not that she wasn't big before, and yet she's alone, hopping from person to person in order to stay relevant. the longest time a character did this before nique was when squig went hobo-ing. as i recall that didn't go nearly as long as this and progressed in its story arc even though he wasn't near any of the other main characters. the nique arc hasn't done a whole lot of progressing for the most part. tat gave it a lead in then it sorta stalled for 2-3 months and now he seems to be making progress again. it feels like the arc started moving again around here
between the lead in and that comic most of what tat was doing was finding ways that patriarchy could fit into the sinfest world, each prominent female character got a visit from nique and it was shown how they were being put down by the system. this, in a way, can be considered progress but it was substandard for this comic. while this was going on he filled the gap by implementing other storylines: lil E and pebbles, Seymour gets sensitive, father time dies, and little other things like slick going devil and squig trying to defend porn. there wasn't a lack of content but after a while, even though other things were happening, i think nique being stuck in the feminist rut and not getting anywhere started to wear on people. They eventually began to voice their dissatisfaction, mostly in ways that framed them as anti-feminist. some obviously were, but some probably just wanted to know why nique wasn't doing much of anything different and were worried that she might be turning into a strong woman version of Cathy(the i eat chocolate and never check my weight lady). Thus, even though her being alone and adapting to a new way of life fit into the storyline it didn’t feel right because the arc didn’t go anywhere for quite a while. I don’t think tat would do that on purpose. He didn’t really do anything wrong, people just expect more from him. Nique is a capable woman, it doesn’t make too much sence that she wouldn’t be able to find people that could understand her and make new friends(I don’t think she’s even met nana yet). If he wanted to have nique and slick stay together he could have started to have them try to understand each other much sooner than this. To me it feels like the arc has been mostly on the back burner while tat tries to bring it all together in a way that feels both real and doesn’t change up the sinfest world too much.
besides that, this comic hasn't really been about realism, at least to the extent it would have to be for your theory to be probable. while i understand not all comics have to be funny and some can be very real, sinfest hasn't show itself to be one of them, the art style seems like a dead giveaway to that. It has romance and real worldviews but these things are always framed in a way that keeps them light and almost juvenile in nature. Sinfest getting real now would be like Animaniacs turning into a sitcom. |

so i read back through the comic a ways and found a few things of interest
1. there are many more 1-shot comics with solo characters than i realized
2. i think the closest nique and nana have come to meeting is in this comic
3. nique might want to heed her own advice
