That big state in the northwest that absorbed like five other states and a wide variety of terrain desperately needs to be called something other than Salt Lake.

Fuck. Columbia? Columbia sucks. It includes Savannah, which is awesome - why couldn't it have been the state of Savannah?

plus everyone will assume it's in the northwest, around the columbia river.

some of the other names are cool. i like naming the deep south after king.

but no way i am living in 'orange'. orange county is full of over-privileged rich folk and minutemen. san diego is the biggest city, and we deserve to keep the name!

or we could be 'missionia', something like that. but no way those fuckers in orange county get to define us.

and _we_ should get hawaii. we share the surfing culture.

I like Rainier, but the people of Alaska probably wouldn't appreciate it. But fuck all six of them, Rainier is cool.

just checked the original page, they provide info on where the names came from:
Quote:
The capitals of the states are existing states capitals where possible, otherwise large or central cities have been chosen. The suggested names of the new states are taken mainly from geographical features:

mountain ranges or peaks, or caves – Adirondack, Allegheny, Blue Ridge, Chinati, Mammoth, Mesabi, Ozark, Pocono, Rainier, Shasta, Shenandoah and Shiprock
rivers – Atchafalaya, Menominee, Maumee, Nodaway, Sangamon, Scioto, Susquehanna, Trinity and Willimantic
historical or ecological regions – Big Thicket, Firelands and Tidewater
bays, capes, lakes and aquifers – Casco, Tampa Bay, Canaveral, Mendocino, Ogallala, Salt Lake and Throgs Neck
songs – Gary, Muskogee and Temecula
cities – Atlanta, Chicago, Columbia, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Newark, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Washington
plants – Tule and Yerba Buena
people – King and Orange

wtf - who the hell is 'orange'?

i mean, other than samsally's cat.

i'm actually cool with us being named for samsally's cat.

I imagine the people living in those areas would think it's a Nuisance, though.

i'm actually cool with us being named for samsally's cat.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orange_County,_Virginia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_III_of_England

Basically, they named it after OC Virginia who took the name from mothafucking Willem III van Oranje who ruled both The Netherlands and Britain. He was kinda dope.

yes, except this state is out in california, in approximately the same region as orange country, CA. which......hmf. oddly enough appears to have been named for orange county virginia instead of all the oranges that grow around here.

in any event, it's now mostly known for being wildly conservative, so i refuse to let it get the name of the whole new state. most of which probably never even _heard_ of william III&II (and what kind of a designation is that, anyway?). he certainly never heard of _us_.

It's three different soveriegnties: As Stadtholder of Orange and as King of England, he was the third William to hold those positions, but he was the second William to sit as King of Scotland.
