Black Kitty runs her finger along the counter top before her. Finding an acceptably bohemian amount of dust, she smiles at her team of barristas.

"I think we're almost ready."

Leaning back on her heels, she surveys the shop's plethora of seating options - an overstuffed brown sofa here, a pair of ornate red velvet chairs there; the group of squat leather ottomans cozying up to a low table, the wooden army of tables for two... And finally the bar, with adequate seating for any number of lone wolves that might happen by.

She prepared for almost any drink request, caffeinated, carbonated, alcoholic or non-. And she was prepared for the art. A respectable stage with modest lighting and an impressive sound system. A hammer and nails for the walls. A projector and screen for the film-inclined.

Clapping her hands together with satisfaction, she crosses the room, unlocks the door and flips the sign in the window.

"Welcome."

[Edit: Hey, guys! This is an outlet for any creativity you might want to share. Art, music, poetry or what-have-you - anything! I know you're all creative people. I just missed seeing it around here. And if you're more inclined toward prose, have some fun roleplaying. Wink ]

I like the vibe here; a variety of good microbrews on tap, some decent ciders, though I have to question serving pbr and not yuengling lager. most of all I really dig the music; jazz night, latin samba, acoustic folk open mic night. in case anyone missed liz & the lost boys the other week, I suggest you check them out.

edit: well apparently they took down most of their songs in anticipation of their debut album release (which I am thrilled to have contributed to through their kickstarter campaign). anyway, next time they play here I suggest you guys check them out.

Samsally walk in; a perfect example of the slightly zombified look that comes from a shitty day and not enough caffeine. She places an order for a honey latte and curls up in the comfiest open chair she can find, playing with her phone while she waits for her drink.

It's the catty remarks that tend to take over, though, MT.

Darq strolls up to the counter and orders a large cup of the house blend, adding "And make that sweet and light, if you could, please. Thank you." He pays for his drink and drops the coins and a single in the cup labeled "TIPS."

He looks around and secures his favorite spot: a seat in a far corner so no one can sit behind him. He sits down and starts rifling through his Death Note
messenger bag
.

"There's got to be a good one in here somewhere . . ." he can be heard muttering to himself.

Stripey Pants wanders in with the biggest backpack ever. He orders a steamer with all the flavor shots ever, and leaves a giant tip because baristas should have moneys.

Once seated at a table, he pulls out a homemade easel, pencils, pens, paints, rulers, and other glorious second hand art supplies. He sets the paper up and scribbles.

...And then he spends an hour looking at corgi puppies on the internets, rather than actually drawing.

TIAB scans the room briefly as he enters, not really looking to spot anyone he knows, just trying to get a feel for the crowd. Big conversations with small voices, he can deal with that.

His eyes move to the menu board, reading through the various flavored coffee drinks looking for the two words that excite him but so often lead to disappointment: "Italian Soda". He looks for a list of flavor syrups, hoping for at least a dozen, bracing for only a couple but expecting something in between... 40. Flavors. A grin escapes his lips. Opportunities such as this rarely present themselves anymore. What to choose? There is the classic combination of Strawberry, Kiwi and Vanilla, or the delightfully sweet combination of Pineapple and Cheesecake. Today calls for something brighter, but not dessert like.

"Italian Soda with cranberry and melon, please."

"Oooh, I never thought of that!"

"Try it sometime," he smiled back.

After enjoying his first sip of fruity delight, TIAB looked again at the room for a place to sit...

finn sits in the corner sipping his irish coffee absentmindedly staring off into space. when his attention returns to the here and now he realizes that he had been inadvertently staring at samsally for the past five to ten minutes. sure that he now seems like a total creep, finn pulls up his hood and heads for the exit steadfastly trying to avoid making eye contact with anyone. with his hood up, his head bowed, and his eyes trained on the floor; finn, not looking where he is going, bumps into black kitty and sends the tray of espressos and lattes she was carrying crashing to the floor. after helping her gather up the pieces of the shattered mugs onto the tray, finn drops a twenty onto the tray to cover the damages and once again heads for the exit, still trying to avoid meeting anyone's gaze.

After having gotten bored of her phone Samsally catches a glimpse of Stripey Pant's art supplies. She briefly regrets not bringing her sketch pad, but immediately gets distracted by the corgi videos on his computer.

She's jolted out of her corgi-stupor by a loud crash and looks up to see Finn fleeing and Black Kitty stuck with a mess. She stands up to offer some help, recalling her days as a barista.

Wiping her hands on her apron, she stands and quickly grabs Finn by the hoodie. A flick of her wrist spins him around, and the other waggles his twenty at him.

"You dropped this," she smiles. Tucking it into his hand (her barristas grumbling behind her), she nods her head to the corner, where lap top sits plugged into the sound system. "I loved your music suggestion - Liz and the Lost Boys, right? "Escape" was a great song. If you have a minute, would you play dj for us while I clean up a bit?" She winks, making it clear that she's not gonna let him leave over something as silly as spilled lattes, and pushes him gently towards the computer.

She grabs a towel out of her back pocket, but stops midstep with a smile for Samsally, who seems to have beaten her to the punch. Picking up the tray and taking the sopping towel from her, she cants her head. "You were the honey latte, right? You want another one?"

trying to suppress his embarrassment and rising social anxiety, convinced that every eye in the place is on him, finn takes a seat behind the laptop and completely fails to notice that pretty much everyone is absorbed in their own things and have hardly even taken notice of him at all. after a minute or so of poking around on the computer he finds that liz & and the lost boys have in fact not taken down their other songs but merely moved them to another page so as to separate them from the songs on the upcoming album. as all my charm & grace begins to play, finn leans back in his chair, finally starting to relax, and smiles as he begins to realize how chill this place really is.

Fritter walks in and surveys the crowd. After saying hello to everyone he knows, he walks up to the bar and asks for a coffee, black with sugar. Confusion reigns supreme as he and kitty try to figure out the exchange rate for Canadian dollars, which further is compounded by the lack of pennies. After dropping the change into the tip jar, he promptly passes out from exhaustion, snoring quietly in his seat.

He walks in, backpack in hand and with earphones, nodding and snapping his fingers to whatever he is listening to. After finding a corner table, he reverently places his backpack on a chair, and walks to the bar. After noticing the delicious noms that go great with coffee and tea, he glances at the menu before taking off his headphones; something jazzy could be heard from them. He smiles to the barista at the bar.

Uhm...if I may have a pot of some peppermint tea, please, and maybe some of those cheese danishes?

After paying, and leaving a serviceable tip, he heads back to the table, opening his backpack to take out a few balls of yarn and a really long stripey scarf. A moment later, the barista comes over and deposits his order along with a small pot of honey. He pours some of the tea into his cup and swirls a huge dollop of honey into it. After sipping a bit, he puts his earphones back on and begins to knit.

StripeyPants eventually escapes from corgi-land and begins drawing cute animals flolloping around in the snow.
