The kill all men line cements my distaste for this feminist arc.
It was a funny strip until that.

If anyone put "kill all women" or "kill group X" into a comic, they'd probably be abandoned by their advertisers.

Personally, I think the stigma against devil people was always the better metaphor.

I find the reaction towards the previous panel by forum members and the reaction to this one....telling.
It's first bashing a heterosexual couple for...uhm..existing basically.
And then cheering for a lesbian couple - of which one woman seems to be a deranged psychotic.
Not to mention the phrase "kill all men" doesn't help their view point AND has been uttered more than once during this arc.

Again the reactions are one sided on this forum.
Wonder what would happen if the genders would be reversed.

I do see some of the double standards you mention.

But that doesn't mean I can't enjoy the comic- it's members of the Sisterhood poking fun at themselves, and some of the more extreme views associated with them.

I don't think there really is any serious intent behind most of it. I think it's just... stereotypical banter for the sake of satire.

But I could be wrong. In which case, I reiterate: prepare for the fempocalypse.

You know, I think people might be right. Joking about the feminist campaign to eliminate all men from the planet is in really poor taste. Men live in fear, every single day, on the knife's edge of extinction thanks to this evil feminist agenda. The reality of this situation should not be made light of or ignored, and the plight of these hapless menfolk not dismissed or taken less seriously for the sake of burlesque. Doing so minimizes the very real suffering of men who have been crushed, literally crushed under the Big Wheels of these violent and militant women, and seeks to minimize and distract from the power these broad swords wield in order to keep the men complacent and lined up like cattle for the slaughter. It helps to reinforce and shore up the cultural and institutional mores they rely on to obscure and justify their crushing vice-grip of control on the very bodies, even the very squishy testicles and other such pink and intimate bits, of the footballsier sex--even as others invested in these feminist power structures are pushing for laws in the very congresses of this country, in order to wrest more and more control, even unto death, of these male bodies.

How many of our brothers, our fathers, our sons, and our good and benevolent husbands will we lose to this man-killing culture before we wake up, stop laughing it off with such crude and heartless humor, and actually do something about it?

Honestly, with all this misandry and showing off the "douchebags" who are in fact self-proclaimed douchebags and showing us how Slick cannot overcome his dark side and how Uncle Sam is basically deceit incarnate, I'd say this comic totally needs Crimney and the Sisterhood having some chat. I don't remember them meeting up too much, especially not... speaking to each other much.

Popping my head in again after spending too much time on the Wonder Woman thread (that everyone should read! There's a petition and everything!), mightn't it be thesis-antithesis-synthesis in the strip?

First we have the pre-feminist stuff, then the exploring-feminism stuff and a lot of introspection, and shock, about negative patriarchal messages (thesis), then observing some of the problems in some kinds of extreme/distorted versions of feminism (antithesis, as seen in some very recent strips like this one), and perhaps leading ultimately to a more complex and well-rounded synthesis?

I mean, you can see that pattern in a lot of things when someone starts dealing with all sorts of issues--the "first fervor" of a religious or political conversion, then disillusionment with problems one didn't see or pay attention to at first, but then finally an affirmation of the good while being aware of the bad.

I am probably more on the dudebro side of the spectrum, but this comic was honestly and absolutely hilarious. It made me smile. Very Happy

As someone said earlier, it's getting easier to like the sisterhood as people the more we see these interactions with them.

I see no reason to suppose that they are joking about themselves. They smile, but surely they might do so because they approve! Mr. Ishida's sock puppets are amusing, though - they have this wild, goggle-eyed look.

Ha ha, anyone who thinks "Kill all men!" is anything besides a light-hearted joke is seriously lacking critical thinking skills (the mostly politically correct way I can say that xD). Does your comedy have to be one-dimensional and spoon fed to you? Does it have to be so straightforward that there's no room for interpretation? Maybe you should try slapstick. It's much easier to follow. Heck, that's it! Maybe Tat needs to add in more physical comedy. I'm sure the Sisterhood would be happy to oblige! Laughing

Until then, let the rest of us enjoy the clever comedy of this strip and know that Tat still uses his characters for fun just as he always had! Yes, he has gotten into a heavy plot arc, but sometimes they do relax and banter around!

And yes please, add me to the bandwagon for more God in the comics. Loved his response here. And next some Buddha and Dragon too! =P

if it was coming from xanthe or curly i'd be certain about that, but we don't know #3 too well. there's room for her to be a nutcase / plain immature

i don't see any problem either way

The difference is in this:

(source: The Oatmeal - Minor Differences)

And in this case, we can't be perfectly certain which one describes #3's view on this.
Not to mention, "Kill all women!" or "Kill all humans!" wouldn't sound that great. I'm not sure why this statement with men | women would be any different in value.

They're lying on the grass looking at sockpuppets. Take a fucking guess.

Honestly pretty much everyone here is in agreement that it's a joke except those who have been against the Sisterhood constantly, so I'm not surprised the dudebro's are doing mental gymnastics again to make them look evil.

Dude, the lesbians are literally only in one panel. The long haired puppet of the first panel is Eve. Long haired puppet in the third panel is a female Jesus. There is literally nothing for you to deduce that one of them seems to be a deranged psychotic.

What part of gender inequality do you just not understand? If the genders were reversed the statement would hold a different weight to it. The difference is, oh, I dunno, maybe a couple hundred years of the oppression of an entire gender?

Eh, the sockpuppet argument doesn't really fly. Tat uses a wide variety of tools to get messages across, sockpuppets is just the tool he uses with God (sometimes he uses his fingers too), just like porn is the medium he uses with Uncle Sam.

I can see both sides of the argument here. These past two comic strips have really portrayed the Sisterhood as an organization that hates men, not the Patriarchy, but men in general.

Of course this is GOD we're talking about and quite frankly I have a hard time taking any of his strips too seriously. There are messages in it but I think the message this time isn't about the Sisterhood, but how malleable religion is and how often it has changed based on who it is that's associated with it.

---

However it's very interesting to watch these debates. Whenever there is something that glorifies the Sisterhood and condemns the Patriarchy the Sisterhood advocates all come out of the wood work and support the message, they dig deep and find every tiny little message they can that supports their side and condemns men and 'dudebros'. Then they'll dig trenches, stake the ground and set up artillery and literally insult, berate and verbally assault anyone that disagrees with them. All of the threads I bothered to stick around and read have usually all devolved into name calling and insults because neither side wants to relent or come to some form of mutual agreement or middle ground.

However whenever the OPPOSITE occurs the Sisterhood advocates all pass it off as nothing more than a joke, pointless, satire and not serious. They won't try to defend the actions and arguments of the individuals in the strip, they'll just try to wipe it all off the board by stating it's not meant to be serious and that everyone should lighten up and stop reading too much into the strip.

The Sisterhood advocates aren't the only one guilty of this though, the opposite is true for those that stand against the Sisterhood.

And despite what you all may think of me, I'm neither for nor against either side. I'm the person that always plays devils advocate. I always try to present a side I feel hasn't been portrayed properly, or at all, regardless of my own personal views and feelings of it.

However all of that is why I've come to the realization that's it's pointless to try to argue anything here. People are so dead set in their ways that they're unable and unwilling to see any view but their own (I'm not saying to ACCEPT another view, but just the ability to SEE). When you bring along the anonymity that is the Internet and the fact that there's no repercussions of letting fly whatever you want to say everyone sort of... well... go read this strip over at Penny Arcade, it explains everything quite well: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/03/19
