It looks like those apps and sites that keep track of apps which are temporarily free. I don't use it, but a friend has vouched for it.

You can also go directly to the 'zon and just search for the free Kindle books. They have a list of the top 100 being offered at any given time. (Basically go to the kindle book store, it should be listed on the right hand side a little ways down along with the top 100 paid books.)

The Blaschka family also made exquisite glass replicas of plants (and even their pollinators) for the Harvard Botanical Museum.

A friend made this awesome comic about why artists should put watermarks on their art.

I've wasted entirely too much time on www.geoguessr.com lately. As near as I can tell, 32400 is a perfect score, but I've topped out at 32391. The closest I've managed to get to a location is about 3 meters. And being able to read a little Japanese and Russian has helped quite a bit.

Now that I've managed to get a couple of locations precisely, it looks like the highest possible score is actually 32395. Closest I've come is 32394.

Fallout from an episode of Kitchen Nightmares turns into a batshit crazy multi-site flamewar.

It's got everything you could want, threatened legal action where no law is broken, bad photoshop, come down here like a man, bad spelling, invoking god, capslock, there's a couple full games of "we don't understand the internet" bingo going on here.

Well, that sure took up quite a few hours of my time. My highest score is only around 18000; the closest I ever came was 0.011 kilometres (hooray Houston, BC). The most helpful thing was usually finding things like post offices, police departments, highway markers, or road signs with distances to the next town/city.

The worst one I had to try and figure out started with me being underwater next to a sea turtle... from there I made it to the beach, to some resort, and that was it, there was no other directions to go, and no signs telling you what it was. Turns out it was on the east coast of Australia, so when I guessed Bali I wasn't terribly far off.

Regardless, fun game for map fiends like myself.

The closest I've been able to get is 126km, but I've only played a couple of rounds. The first round I started on a dirt road and followed it for ages without a sign, a car, or a person to act as a clue before just giving up and guessing it was the Australian outback. It was Botswana. I got better after that, though. Without googling the city names on a street sign, I figured out I was in Norway once (but picked the wrong end), and got super close when I recognized Hungarian on a sign... well not so much recognized as just noodled over it and decided it was definitely eastern european and not any of the ones I'd more or less recognize. That was my closest guess so far.

The first picture on the second round showed a giant RV and a 4-door V8 Nissan Titan truck. Oh yeah, I was in North America...

Test your social intelligence.

There are some glaring flaws with the methodology, but has enough merit to at least be interesting and somewhat valuable.
