Yes, you should totally thaw them. However, whenever I had frozen eggs I just threw them away. Please let me know how it goes!

+ Finally had my first veggie pick up day.
- Less veggies than expected. Well, there was a frost last week. We'll see how it goes.
+ Lettuce, spinach, mustard greens, kale, green onions, chives, radishes, a beet, and rainbow chard that is just gorgeous. I also picked up a DENSE loaf of home baked white bread and a dozen eggs.

yeah, that's one thing about CSAs - you are at the mercy of the elements and other random acts of nature (my CSA finally gave up on trying to grow corn because the neighbor's cows kept breaking down the fence and eating it). sounds like you got a pretty nice selection to start out with, though!

We've been doing a CSA, but also a "select your stuff" online and then pick it up as a way to reduce the "OMG so much vegetable matter" syndrome. However, yesterday I went to pick up our stuff. The farmer says, "OK, I need a grocery bag" and I handed over a bag, and she fills it with carrots and peas and other goodies so it was pretty full. Then she say, "you still have 2 kohlrabi on the list" so I hand over another bag. "Nope, two more bags".

She reaches down and hoists up these 2 kohlrabi, each the size of a head, with giant leaves coming off each! We'll be pickling for sure!

i kind of enjoy the challenge of dealing with all the surprise vegetables i get, but i must admit there are times i wish i could choose - like when i get huge bunches of 3 or 4 kinds of greens, which will not possibly fit in my fridge.

but kohlrabi that size - in my experience, the big ones get really fibrous under the skin and you end up having to peel about half of them off. although at head-size, that should still leave you a bit to pickle. how do you pickle your kohlrabi (she asks, even though she hasn't gotten any kohlrabi since The Year of the Endless Kohlrabi).

I'm not convinced I'm actually sober enough to access the internet with any form of responsibility but I just got back from Star Trek and OH MY GOD.

AGH THAT MOVIE.

It gave me feeling. A LOT of feelings. Good and bad. But I think leaning towards good?.... More to come when I finally manage sober again.

+ I absolutely rocked yesterday at the big meeting at my work. Whoo!

- Because I couldn't do anything else yesterday, I have too much work to do today x.x

+ I feel really good, lots of energy too without guzzling 10 liters of cola.

- I have SO MUCH chores waiting for me at home and my partner is off for the week so I have to do it alone baww (vacuuming, cleaning the kitchen, changing the cat litter ewww, washing, dinner shopping)

+ Saturday I will see my good long-distance friends whom I haven't seen in 2 years! Yay!

So I spent so much time and energy ramping up into Star Trek that now that it's over I have no idea what to do with myself.

Like. There are things I could be doing, but mostly I feel "meh" about it all.

At least I had a blast at the movie. My friends are all super awesome and I was really happy they all came out.

While waiting for the movie to start today, I told my mom and brother about what you and your friends did. They thought it was pretty cool.

To Hell and back. Or at least it sometimes feels like it. Thanks for asking though.

- I spilled a glass of vodka on my laptop
+ it being alcohol it dried very quickly and almost everything still works
- except, it seems, my wifi.
- no wifi, no internet. no internet, no forum.
+ I expect it could have been much worse
+ I still have a month left on my warranty, so I hope I can get them to fix it for free.

- June 13th, microbiology final at 8:30am
- Drive to Portland immediately after
+ Orientation at OHSU June 14th from 8am-4pm
- Drive back to Bellingham immediately after
+ Going away party June 15th in the afternoon
- Pack up a moving van and drive back to Portland June 16th

I didn't plan any of this, it just kind of happened... it's kind of lucky they're not all on the same day. I'm thinking of driving down and then taking the train back up. I'll have to bum rides everywhere (uhh someone has to be willing to drive me to my own going away party, right?), but I won't have to drive a 14-foot Uhaul towing my car behind it, which would suck ass.

And which would be extraordinarily expensive! $0.49/km adds up pretty fast.

(interestingly, all uhauls in Canada have Arizona license plates. At least I thought it was interesting.)

I changed the plans a little. I'm now driving to PDX, leaving my car, and taking the train back up. Then I just need rides around town on Saturday (which probably won't be an issue, I might even be able to borrow a friend's car) and help packing the Uhaul. No towing! It's worth a lot to me not to have to tow a car behind a Uhaul.

What is a CSA and how do I find if one is near me.

Fresh veggies for fairly cheap would be an incredible boon.
