I'm mildly interested as to what those ideas are.
My ideas generally revolve around governmental transparency, and revoking inane laws that restrict personal freedoms (Gay Marriage laws, anyone?).
As for putting that in action... I wouldn't mind seeing either a democratically elected party, or at least a collective movement to put pressure on the government to act in a more transparent manner, and remind it of the fact that a government is supposed to listen to it's constituents, not the other way around. |
Oh, I support all that. What I think is misguided is the total laissez-faire-ism and the unyielding opposition of all forms of progressive social programs.
btw crayven, most libertarians don't particularly mind things like public libraries and public roads, even if they have some philosophical disagreement with them. It is indeed ridiculous to oppose those things, and also things like state-funded research, etc. Those things are the very last things on their agendas, if they care about them at all. |
Ah, and this is where the Anarcho-Capitalism side of Libertarianism collides with the more moderate, or Minarchist, viewpoint.
I'm personally a Minarchist, in that I believe that government, as a whole, should be smaller, but at the same time I support the idea that a government is the best way to maintain the infrastructure that supports society. I'd prefer not having to pay a private firefighting company to come extinguish my burning house. Or pay a private security firm to protect myself or my property from harm.
I also support a social welfare program. I think it's despicable to throw someone out on the street with no safety net or means of survival.
Mostly trim away the fat, the excess bureaucracy, and make it easier to see where money is going, why it is going, and a clear explanation of why the government is choosing to do something.
Edit: Crayven has apparently suffered a fatal error and needs to close.
Edit2: In the face of particularly mad ranting, I would once again like to remind people of the central idea of Libertarianism:
The All Knowing Wikipedia wrote: | Libertarianism (Latin: liber, "free")[1] is a set of related political philosophies that uphold liberty as the highest political end.[2][3] This includes emphasis on the primacy of individual liberty,[4][5] political freedom, and voluntary association. It is the antonym to authoritarianism. |
Q. Do all Libertarians want the downtrodden to die in the streets?
A. Fuck No!
Q. Do all Libertarians want to abolish the government, or privatize all services?
A. Fuck No!
There are a lot of shitty libertarians out there, and I should probably find a different label to go by, but whatever. I hate authoritarianism, and I think personal freedoms are something worth fighting for. If the shoe fits, wear it.

Yeah Ennis, it's hard to compete with their cuteness! I'm still a corgi man at heart though. My wife and I have 2 actually. xD

Yeah, that's probably the biggest endeavor of theirs I support. I feel the government is overbloated with many things that could be done so much better. Heck. Some programs are misleading and used to make money for the wrong people. Not to mention programs that are for supporting people are over-bloated to the point that so much of the actual money going into those programs is used to PAY to run the programs instead of reaching the people.

I'm actually a cat person, teacup pomeranians are one of the few types of dogs I'd consider owning. So flufffyyyy.
Also I don't think anyone would disagree that the government spends its money on the wrong things. It's what they think is the right thing to spend it on that people tend to argue over. |

...I know that I said that I'd put you in the ignore this but this is killing me so I have to ask.
What's your objective, crayven?
Honest question. What the fuck are you doing here, if you're not a troll? What do you expect to gain here? I'm an objective-oriented person, so I can't fit in my little, mechanical head how in the world do you think posting things that you are aware will get a negative reaction with absolutely no one minding your opinion will improve the state of your life.
Just... Why? _________________ Welcome to Sinfest, the only place with a 46 pages long thread about sentient toasters
