i'm intimidated by the power of your rhymes.

catses are good. angelina had a near-death experience with a coyote, so they have to be indoor cats except on weekends (and sometimes if i get home early enough), but i got them a cat tower, so they are having fun fighting for the right to the top.

My friend has an ugly dying tree that has become a pigeon tower. It's 30 ft tall but the only branch they care about is the very very top. It's interesting to watch if you're not the one dealing with the birdshit

I thought about trying to add some stuff, but what you've got going there is pretty awesome.

Currently re-reading Tricksters Choice by Tamora Peirce for like the 40th time.

I have a request to ask of you marvelous readers. I need recommendations for Urban Fantasy, or straight fantasy novels that either have no sex in them at all, or at least no graphic sex. Sort of the opposite of Laural Hamilton. My mother loves fantasy novels but sex squicks her out.

Thanks

I'll second Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. There is an ongoing love interest, but it's not physical.

She might also like The Deed of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon. It's a straight up fantasy, and not focused on sex/romance hardly at all. She does have a second series that takes place in the same world but doesn't focus on Paks anymore. I'm currently reading her new book out in that series. There is some romance in this series, but it's not in your face at all. You can buy the original 3 books in an omnibus now.

And I talk about the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson too much on here. Razz

I'm reading Kraken by China Mievelle, first book I've read by him. To be honest I always thought he was a she, nevermind.

Anyway so, 10 pages in not loving it. Started again and still not loving it, hit 40 pages in and intrigued. 65 pages in and I'm already sad I've only 400 pages of this world left. It's fantasy without the bullshit and orcs.

Can anyone recommend a next Mievelle book, or something similar to this particular novel?

I haven't read meiville though ive burned through most of the authors in that section at the local book store so i'll look it up.

I recommend The first law trilogy by joe abercrombie. I had the same sort of thing with that series, trouble getting into it until about 1/3 of the way into the first book.

Thanks mate, I'll look it up. I can't recommend this book highly enough though. The last 30 pages have already given me 3 or 4 'Whaaat??!??' moments. The main character thus far is a bit of a Mary Sue but the secondary and tertiary characters are kick ass.

God I sound like a moron.

Actually it's very like a British version of American Gods so far.

I read Miéville's book Perdido Street Station. It is pretty damn amazing but damn... um, don't read it if you are feeling down.

I tried to read The Scar and just. couldn't. read. any. more. I have heard from more than one person that The Kraken is much better. I'll request it from the library.

I'm reading Abeddon's Gate by James SA Corey - the third book in the series. It... isn't quite as awesome as the other two. Not bad or anything, not at all, but not quite as good. Maybe the end will catch up.

Brooks was the shannara series, goodkind was the bondage undertones DBZ series.
