related to that article, one piece of advice i give guys is that there is a time and a place for compliments and i don't care how nice you think you're being with them, understand that you can freak someone out with them due to the cultural context surrounding them and how frequently women are proposed or pursued inappropriately by them.

Rule Fucking Number One is do not compliment someone somewhere where they do not have a physical exit outside of their environment. Essentially, don't get in an elevator, wait for the doors to close, then compliment a girl someplace where she is forced to wait it out.

The train shit in that article is like, tada there you go that's why, motherfuckers.

So ifyou watch something by Pedro Almdovár made in Austria, you're set!

Onething I'm confused yis tey listed the Soviet Union as a country, and no mention of Russia - butthere is a mention f the Czech Republic,

Well, I'm not going to stop watching Mel Brooks, but I'm impressed to see Allen so high up on the list.

The point of the Bachdel Test isn't to shame any one person over what genre or director they like. The point is to show the underlying systemic problem.

The graphs do that nicely.

Basically, nobody's telling you to stop watching anything. It's kind of concerning that you assume they are.

God I love that video. I want to be friends with literally everyone in it, but especially the lady that grew her hair out to be Leia because I totally did that, too, back in elementary school.

I like the one in the middle that just says, "BUGS!"

Also, "I don't need you to tell me how much I like anything." That seems self-evident, but sadly isn't.

I'm surprised to see Tarantino so low, Kubrick so high (well okay, maybe not really surprised), and Horror films so low.

But really, Tim Burton for life.

The only problem is that the Bechdel test doesn't point out problematic behaviour, it only points to a lack of female characters who speak to one another (which can be problematic, but isn't always). Therefore, a movie that is grossly misogynistic can pass the test if it has 2 women talking about something other than a man for a couple seconds, and some movies that shouldn't be problematic (movies with small casts, movies with only a singular character, etc) fail the test.

Which is why Samsally said it shouldn't be used to tell you what to watch or not watch, but to point out a systemic issue of portrayals of women. It's one measure that shows a lack of variety in female characters on one spectrum.

Apparently only a couple of Shakespeare's plays pass the Bechdel test, and in one of them, the women are speaking French.

Which is why Tim Burton scores highly on it despite his lack of variety in OTHER areas.

Anyone here heard of Femen? I am surprised I never found out till now about a group of topless feminist protesters with training camps and everything. I mean, why are our MRAs slacking so much i had to find this out on the street (or at least through google news.)

Heard of them, tend not to really pay attention. The general impression that I get from people who have paid attention is that they are doing for feminism what PETA is doing for treatment of animals.
