Yeah, that's what happens when you shut down the government... you can't get information from federal agencies where employees aren't going to work.
I find it interesting that states are finding ways to open parks - tourist attractions that make money (at least in the case of Utah) - and in Utah they're hoping to get paid back for whatever they spend (up to 10 days worth)... any chance of them funding WIC out of state funds? I know starving infants don't bring in money to the state like parks do, so maybe they're not important.
There is some good news, though. Even other GOPers are getting tired of this. But I hear Paul Ryan and Obama are working on something so maybe that's-- oh for fuck's sake Ted Cruz. _________________ "Worse comes to worst, my people come first, but my tribe lives on every country on earth. WIC is still open in Wisconsin.

Quote: | Wisconsin WIC is still open for business in October, in spite of the government shutdown at the national level or in other states.
- Please keep your appointments and continue to receive food checks, nutrition education, and breastfeeding support.
- Grocery stores and pharmacies will accept WIC checks and will be reimbursed from the State WIC Program.
- Farmers’ market checks can continue to be spent through October 31, 2013 and farmers have until November 15 to deposit their checks at the bank.
We are monitoring the impact of the shutdown daily. Check back (including authorized WIC vendors) regularly for updates. |
Seems like only North Carolina has stopped issuing WIC vouchers despite having the money to continue doing so. Link. |

The November deadline is for more than just Wisconsin, I think. When the government shut down, WIC had some money left over from last year, and some states had WIC money left over as well -- they rationed it out, and for most of the states it'll last 'til more or less the end of October.*
North Carolina, though, was just obnoxious:
WIC: "How much money do you need to run WIC?"
N.C.: "ONE MILLION DOLLARS!" (I don't remember the actual amount and have no sense of scale...)
WIC: "But you didn't even spend close to that amount over the past year..."
N.C.: "ONE MILLION DOLLARS!"
WIC: "Well, will you use any of your state's money for that?"
N.C.: "NOPE! ONE MILLION DOLLARS!"
WIC: "Look we can give you a few thousand."
N.C.: "LOOK AT ALL THE POOR PEOPLE OBAMA'S STUBBORN-NESS IS STARVING!!"
* Also, while school lunch already had the October money given out, but come November there's no guarantee that the shutdown will be over in time to pay them at the end of the month, so, yeah. Schools will have to gamble on whether they can pay for school lunch. If this doesn't end soon, November's gonna suck... |

We already knew she was brave so perhaps this shouldn't come as a surprise:Malala Yousafzai tells Obama drones are 'fueling terrorism'

I, for one, would support that.
