y'know there really oughta be a law, some kinda law that allows the federal government to, y'know, step in and enforce fair voting laws in states that have a history of disenfranchising entire classes of society
y'know? wouldn't that be cool? |

Three dozen protestors were awarded a million dollars collectively, which averages out to less than $28k per person (assuming the lawyers took nothing...) So, uh, yeah. |

Seattle's city council voted unanimously to use eminent domain if necessary to acquire a parking lot from a resident so they can build ... a parking lot. Seems the owner is greedily refusing to sell.
Derp.
Quote: | SEATTLE — The city is forcing a 103-year-old Spokane woman to sell her parking lot in Seattle to make way for, well, a parking lot.
The Seattle City Council voted Monday to take the lot near the waterfront by eminent domain, using a portion of the $30 million provided by the state to take care of parking issues around the waterfront. Hundreds of public parking spaces will be lost when the state begins dismantling the Alaskan Way Viaduct for the digging of the tunnel. The construction will last until 2020.
The lot is owned by Spokane resident Myrtle Woldson. She doesn’t want to sell, so the City Council voted unanimously to use it’s power of eminent domain to take it after paying Woldson “fair market value.” |
I imagine 'fair market value' now might be somewhat less than 'fair market value' after their grandiose projects are completed. Hmm... And there's some conflicting info regarding if they're planning on building a parking garage there or just using what she's already built.
Derp derp.
Quote: | City officials have said that they plan to keep the lot for surface parking even though Seattle and Washington state department of transportation documents state foresee a parking structure on the property. |
And the city already runs at least one parking garage that loses money.
Derpety derp.
Quote: | Another factor is that the city, which has a poor track record with at least one parking facility, could end up managing a lot that Beck said is very busy during the summer tourism season. Consider Seattle’s record running the Pacific Place mall garage downtown. Over the years, the garage has lost money, according to the city — including a nearly $1.5 million loss in 2012. |

A bit more in depth:Russell Brand on revolution: “We no longer have the luxury of tradition”
Some hippyish stuff, but worth a read I think. _________________ A cigarette is the perfect type of a perfect pleasure. It is exquisite, and it leaves one unsatisfied. What more can one want? ~Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray |

https://data.healthcare.gov/dataset/QHP-Individual-Medical-Landscape/ba45-xusy
This is purportedly the database showing all available health insurance plans available on healthcare.gov. You can enter your state's two letter abbreviation in the search bar to narrow down the list and see prices for plans.
Not sure if this is really what you can get on healthcare.gov, as I haven't tried to sign up. |
