It's called doing a good job for the sake of doing a good job mouse.
Professionalism essentially.
Not that I'd expect someone that blames others for their own lack of perseverance to understand. |

Perhaps the next time you say you will do something for a whole year, you will not give up after 6 days. |

Carry on. |
All I did in this thread was suggest links be numbered (which you adopted), ask a few questions about what fell into the criteria you posted (which you answered), said that your answer was perfectly reasonable, ask if one article met the criteria you posted (and didn't argue when you said it did), and comment on a comparison that I thought was strained. |

Internet shills are paid essentially an entry-level income mouse.
That's only with a college degree, and usually nothing is given for interns. |

Gee golly gosh, why are those dag gone reporters so upset about: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/24/stand-your-ground-records_n_5007847.html
Quote: | After a Tampa Bay Times' review of 200 cases that involved the controversial "Stand Your Ground" law found an "uneven application" and "shocking outcomes," one Florida lawmaker is seeking to impede the media's ability to scrutinize the law.
Earlier this month, state Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fort Walton Beach) filed an amendment that would "severely limit access to court records in the self-defense cases," the Times' Michael van Sickler reports.
The amendment would allow those found innocent in a Stand Your Ground case to "apply for a certificate of eligibility to expunge the associated criminal history record."
Gaetz said his amendment was unrelated to the Times' Stand Your Ground investigation, the Associated Press reports. "The point is to ensure that someone who appropriately uses a Stand Your Ground defense doesn't have their life ruined by the use of that defense," he said. |
So how did this all start you ask? Good journalism:

well, that's clearly the best way to deal with a bad law - just make sure no one can get any information about its impact. _________________ aka: neverscared!

It's not good journalism to call a case a "Stand Your Ground" case when the statute was never used as a defense and wasn't even applicable as a defense. |

but the article explicitly says they are looking at cases where a 'stand your ground' defense was used. just because the DA declined to prosecute or the case was dismissed, doesn't mean the defendant didn't start by citing this defence:
Quote: | • Those who invoke "stand your ground" to avoid prosecution have been extremely successful. Nearly 70 percent have gone free. |
Quote: | • The number of cases is increasing, largely because defense attorneys are using "stand your ground" in ways state legislators never envisioned. The defense has been invoked in dozens of cases with minor or no injuries. It has also been used by a self-described "vampire" in Pinellas County, a Miami man arrested with a single marijuana cigarette, a Fort Myers homeowner who shot a bear and a West Palm Beach jogger who beat a Jack Russell terrier. |
and they admit:
Quote: | • A comprehensive analysis of "stand your ground" decisions is all but impossible. When police and prosecutors decide not to press charges, they don't always keep records showing how they reached their decisions. And no one keeps track of how many "stand your ground" motions have been filed or their outcomes. |
Quote: | Ed Griffith, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office, describes "stand your ground" as a "malleable" law being stretched to new limits daily.
"It's arising now in the oddest of places,'' he said.
That's unlikely to change any time soon, according to prosecutors and defense attorneys, who say the number and types of cases are sure to rise.
"If you're a defense counsel, you'd be crazy not to use it in any case where it could apply,'' said Zachary Weaver, a West Palm Beach lawyer. "With the more publicity the law gets, the more individuals will get off.'' |
haven't finished the whole article yet (it's linked from what darq linked) but it looks like they are limiting themselves to cases where the defense was indeed invoked - whether or not the original intent of the law was that it be used in those cases.
it also compares a lot of cases that are quite similar, but were decided quite differently. in short, it looks like they are taking a legitimate look at the actual effect of the law. _________________ aka: neverscared!

And there's Trayvon Martin in the top row, in a case in which the "Stand Your Ground" defense was not used. |
