The find-the-keys and unlock-the-macguffin story arc?

I'm fine with that involving testing the elements. I'd even be fine with the characters completely losing sight of who they are, like they did in Magical Mystery Cure, which remains one of my favorite episodes of all time. I'd just prefer that they test the elements in a more compelling way. Conflicts threatening to break a core characteristic of a character are inherently interesting, and if it's a positive characteristic then it is inspirational when it is reaffirmed. I just feel that they failed to test the Element of Loyalty in any meaningful way, here, if that's what they're doing.

Stepping over to some of the grimmer fanfiction for a minute, there's plenty that annoys me about Fallout: Equestria, but I feel that in many ways that's what it does best - its theme of 'virtues.' Throughout it is stated that to hold strong against the challenges of the wasteland you must find within yourself a virtue, just one, and never betray that virtue, even if it destroys you. Indeed, there are ponies who are killed by their virtues in the story, but that's still preferable to what happens to those whose virtues are corrupted, and in the story virtues are tested again, and again... and again. And that's what the story does right.

I'm not saying the show needs nightmare-fuel level consequences. I'm not even saying it needs higher consequences than the ones already used. The stakes are plenty high. It's the execution that's lacking. This could have been a good episode.

Maybe it was a good episode and I'm just looking at it through my grumpy-glasses. The first time I saw Magical Mystery Cure (again, my favorite episode) I thought it felt "rushed" and that... wait, I made a post about it

something like this needs way more foreplanning.

I'll watch it again in a few weeks and see if I still think it's terrible.

MMC definitely felt rushed. I still feel the original Discord episodes were rushed, too.

Season 4 Episode 11: Three's a Crowd
In which Twilight learns not to give a mouse a cookie.
Also, being in day 3 of a cold I got while fixing somebody's computer* I can kind of empathize with the situation.
Also, one-day sale on used patio furniture.

*I GUESS IT MUST HAVE BEEN A VIRUS!

also SlyWit (author of Paradise, which has been on hiatus for the last year) claims he's going to start writing again soon, so let's repost some Celestia songs:

Silent Night - Paradise http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXvbuYzpxuo
Stargazers - Final Sundown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tV2_frQh1QA
ponyphonic - Lullaby for a Princess http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4tyvJJzSDk
- duet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0q5vPAsHLI

because Luna and Celestia are best demigod princess sisters and these songs are fantastic

I guess the fandom can retire Bubble Berry, we now know exactly what a male Pinkie Pie is like.

He's orange, and Weird Al.

And it turned out to be a full-blown musical, so there was plenty of Weird Al singing with small horses.

Still, I think the musical highlight of the season so far was last week's Discord song. Bonus: imagine Q singing it to Picard and Riker.
