ok, i'm sorry, but i have to point out that this is a serious problem with equality as it is presented here - you end up with short, boring stories. i have a boring life! i need exciting stories! i need makayla to run that checker cab down, throw it to the ground and engage the driver in a wide-ranging roller-coaster of a discussion that will end with his conversion to a champion in the fight for a race- and gender-neutral world! i need this conversation to involve them throwing fireballs at each other and blowing up the taxi! AND I NEED IT TO GO ON FOR PAGES AND PAGES!

i means seriously, judging from the sisterhood's efforts, future literature will all be in the form of single tweets. IS THIS THE WORLD WE WANT FOR OUR CHILDREN? especially the ones who might otherwise be gainfully employed in the publishing industry.

Actually, this is the world we want for our children. Makayla isn't a warrior woman fighting for justice. She's just trying to get home. I think it's great that she just gets home, no problem. And the thing is, this is an important story for girls to hear growing up also. It teaches them what to expect from a decent society.

Notice how color never come up? Whether hers or the cabs, there is no mention of color.

I'd better not be the only one picturing Makayla picking up a taxi like she's a superhero & then body-slamming it full-force into the pavement.

exactly! isn't that _much_ more exiting than "it stopped for her and took her home"?

Depends on your perspective, I think. If you've ever been stuck in the rain, waving for a taxi, as one by one they drive straight past you, then this story could come across as one with a fabulous fairytale ending.

As a monkey in a cape, I've never needed a taxi.

My handlers drive me around in a cage in the back of a panel van and feed me pieces of banana.

Of course it's exciting to read about dangerous worlds, but not to live in them. Especially if you're not the one with superpowers.

I can't be bothered with taxis now that there are services like Uber and Lyft around. I want perfect information at all times and instant gratification, dammit!

I'd like that superpower. Though I need the superpower of getting more money first.

money is of no real value

wishing for a power to attain it directly is far less useful, to both yourself and society, than wishing for a power that produces actual resources

"perfect information" would include not only the lottery numbers, but also the information needed to build better tools, as well as entertainment media
