I am annoyed by anime of late.
Sword art I think, hey thats a neat premise, decent action scenes...omgrapeynowimsquickedout.
Irregular @magic high school I think, hey ok, cool premise characters are a little tropey but magic as technology is kind of a fun setting i'll just ignore the high school setting OH MY GOD WTF IS WITH THE NOT ENTIRELY VAGUE INCEST VIBE THEY'RE CLEARLY INTENTIONALLY PUSHING.
Black Bullet....fine...ok...post apocalyptic sci fi, not really my thing but it was recommended, ok kind of neat goddamnitwiththeweirdpaedoishvibe. _________________

Ping Pong The Animation is the only 2014 anime I'd actually recommend to anyone
there's a lot of other series that have a few good things going for them, but ... yeah.
but what do you mean by "of late"? It's always been 95% shit, just like everything else. _________________ butts |

I just saw "My Neighbor Totoro" for the first time. I really liked it, and I think I need to dig up all the other Miyazaki films I haven't seen. Which is most of them.
I also wish my copy of Grave of the Fireflies had been lost instead of Kiki's Delivery Service. Both are good, but I'd rather have something cheerful. _________________ ::lesser crisis mode::

Yeah, but there's been a rash of series where they start off "Oh wow this looks good" but within a few episodes become very problematic.
Also, you can't dismiss Knights of Sidonia. I don't kid when I say it's possibly of of the greatest seres of all times. It's Attack on Titan meets Titan AE meets Akira meets Macross. _________________ ...if a single leaf holds the eye, it will be as if the remaining leaves were not there.

Here's something full of light-hearted faire: http://www.crunchyroll.com/folktales-from-japan
Also, for awesome happy good times, you can't go wrong with Sket Dance. I've decided that if there was a fictional series I had to live in, it would be Sket Dance :

My wife kept bugging me to watch it since she's super into it and it does get better, but yeah, that whole gratuitously tacked on sibling thing . . . they could have done the show just as well without the creepy pseudo sexual vibe. What makes this really annoying is that I really like the whole 'magic as a science' concept but , yeah you're just like WHY THE FUCK DO THEY HAVE TO BE LIKE THAT.
Anywho, I'm about to go watch Haikyuu and Baby Steps. Volleyball and Tennis FTW! _________________ ...if a single leaf holds the eye, it will be as if the remaining leaves were not there.

My Neighbor Totoro makes me so happy. If you haven't seen it yet I also recommend The Cat Returns for something else in the 'makes you feel good about life in general' category. Spirited Away is super good. Howl's Moving Castle is a must see (which reminds me, I keep meaning to read the book it's based on).
Castle in the Sky was alright but didn't grip me for some reason. Ponyo was cute but kinda meh to me personally.
I didn't like Arrietty -at all- but I've always kind of hated the story it's based off (The Borrowers) so there is that. It kept in the spirit of the original story, at any rate. It's definitely not what I'd call cheerful.
Those are all I can really remember at the moment. _________________ Samsally the GrayAce |

Spirited Away was the first Miyazaki film I ever saw. I used to own a copy of that too, would like to get it again.
I love Howl's Moving Castle! The book is really great too, but quite different. There is also a sequel book which is set in the same world but features different characters. It was also really good!
I did watch Ponyo, and I thought it was cute. I might give Arrietty a shot, since I've seen it around the library. _________________ ::lesser crisis mode::
