I can just hear D-man say, as he's walking amongst those devilfolk kneeling before him, in his best Ash voice:

"Hail to the king, baby!"

Yeah, the Great Gatsby is pretty romanticized by culture over that kind of thing. Except... the whole point of the story was how empty and pointless that excess was. Sorta like how Fight Club attracted an audience who were rooting for Tyler Durden and missed the point about toxic retro masculine ideals.

Anyways, something I can't help but notice -- the wine glasses are situated in such a way that actual "trickle-down" economics is in play. Meaning highly inefficient and positioned in such a way that most of that wine is going to waste.

That's actually a common arrangement for filthy-rich champagne parties... and yes, I do believe it's meant to evoke "trickle-down" crap. The host/hostess gets the top one (also, they tend to be the richest); those on the bottom tier aren't their "top earners", so they should be grateful to even get a glass.

It's the type of thing Munoz from United Airlines, or the chairpeople at EA would attend. You know, the kind of person who doesn't apologize until after it's affecting the stock price, or people who make absolutely sure that, if someone were to rise through the ranks into their boardroom, they'd never, ever have more than half the salary of the next-lowest-earner.

THIS is the true evil in modern society; Tat made a good choice.

interesting expressions in panel 4 - people don't seem to be real happy to see their host.
