The "20 minutes of action"-judge has been recalled! I didn't know that was possible.

D-Day is example of America's 'strong relationship with German government'

- The Boston tea party is example of America strong relationship with UK
- 1945 Aug 6th's is example of America strong relationship with Japan
etc...

We can make a bingo out of it, or the next multiple choice test for being a spokesperson in the State Department.

well, now we know who's been teaching trump history.

she probably just forgot to mention that U.S.-German history goes back to when Canada set fire to the White House and the Hessians put out the fire.

He fought a mob that chased gay people into a Utah cafe. Now some are bringing him balloons and calling him a hero.

Quote:

On Saturday night, the 21-year-old was working behind the counter at Doki Doki dessert shop during a quiet shift. Just before closing, about 10:30 p.m., four frightened men who had just left the Utah Pride Festival burst through the door. The group of guys that had chased them in was gathering outside, making taunting gestures and yelling homophobic slurs.

Mannery ran to the entrance to block the mob from coming into the cafe.

One attacker shoved Mannery into the glass and metal door, breaking its hinge. Some of them started punching. It was dark and Mannery couldn’t see how many there were. He felt at least seven hits; one left a dark red scratch on his cheek. Witnesses have said he was trying to fend off some 15 to 20 muscular men.

The group, described by one bystander as some “wholesome Utah boys,” dispersed when a security guard approached. Mannery went back inside Doki Doki. Not knowing what else to do, he went back to taking orders. The four victims who ran in left in a Lyft. It was over in minutes.

So, a protest blocked the Edmonton pride parade until the organizers agreed to ban the Edmonton police, the RCMP, and military from taking part in the pride parade in following years.

Note, this is despite the fact that the Edmonton police had already made the decision not to march in uniform due to the same thing happening in Toronto the previous year.

As someone who knows enlisted folks who take part in the Edmonton pride parade in uniform (Canadian Forces), fuck that.

I think what irks me most though is that it seems they want to ban the police from taking part in Pride, but still want the police to actually maintain security at the parade. Edmonton is a rough town compared to a lot of Canada, especially considering it's basically the evangelical heartland of the country. So I guess they are fine with the police doing their dirty when it suits them, insofar as keeping security at the parade and dealing with the evangelicals and roughnecks. And this is for an event that is publicly funded, too.

Something interesting: You know the Stanford Prison Experiment? The one that showed that if you put someone in a position of power over another, they will inevitably abuse that power?

Turns out it's fraudulent.

Power does not inherently corrupt. But the corrupt are inherently drawn to power.

An arts event in New Jersey was attacked. All we know so far is that 20 people injured, one suspect in custody and one dead at the scene.

*edit*
Updated to 22 injured. Initial reports are calling it a "neighborhood beef."

https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/17/us/new-jersey-art-festival-shooting/index.html

Interesting that the first word I reached for was "attacked," when it may have turned out to be crossfire.

Japan executes sarin gas attack cult leader Shoko Asahara

That takes me back!. I was there that day, and still remember vividly the look, and words thrown at me the following days for being a foreigner thus somehow at fault for all of this, before the investigation started looking at the Aum Shinrikyo sect.

The piece made a mistake on one account though, while it is true it's members were coming from some of the best universities. They themselves were not the best, but mostly the second or third best, those who were 'not good enough' to meet familial expectations.
