jwing wrote: | Q: I've entered a competition in Reno next July. One of the categories I've signed up for is "Alternative". I need to dance to non-Middle Eastern music, with non-belly dance moves mixed in with my belly dancing. I want to base a 6-minute (or so) routine around the one scene in The Birdcage where Armand (Robin Williams) is directing the drag show.
"You do an eclectic celebration of the dance! You do Fosse, Fosse, Fosse! You do Martha Graham, Martha Graham, Martha Graham! Or Twyla, Twyla, Twyla! Or Michael Kidd, Michael Kidd, Michael Kidd, Michael Kidd! Or Madonna, Madonna, Madonna!... but you keep it all inside. "
What music would you recommend to go with this? I was thinking of either "We are Family" or having snippets of songs made famous by the above mentioned choreographers. (along with dance-related soundbits, i.e. Gene Kelly singing the line "Gotta Dance!")
Your thoughts, opinions and ideas, please? | Well, I'm not extremely up on dance, but I think if you're going to do several different styles in one routine, you should have the music reflect that and have different songs mixed together. Is it going to look anything like this? You know, several songs together and you mix the dance in a fun way? _________________ A person's character is their destiny. |

Because I get busy and sometimes, even I, superlibrarian, like to sometimes not be doing library work. Although this thread seems way different than the previous iterations. In the previous ones, I was doing actual reference work most of the time. This time the questions are more subjective. _________________ A person's character is their destiny. |

Is it possible to puncture an eardrum and still be able to hear? For a while I was deaf on the left side and it would bleed occasionally, but now it just hurts a little bit and I can hear as well as ever. |

Oh yes. Eardrums can grow back. Just ask any doctor who puts tubes in the ears of children who regularly suffer ear infections. My children both had tubes in their ears and can hear just fine. My sister had her eardrum burst due to an ear infection and can hear just fine too. _________________ A person's character is their destiny. |

Actually, I can't imagine asking a girl how I compared size wise. What the hell? What good could possibly come of that? If she says, "mmm" and runs her hands over it, that may distract you, but then you'd be "why was she evasive?" later on. If she answers in some ego-inducing way, you'd guess she would lie no matter what anyway. And clearly if you are asking, "I've seen bigger and better" is not going to make you happy either. Or you get a clinical recounting of all her past lovers, and quail at the slightly dreamy look in her eyes. Why ask for trouble? |

Honestly, I see it as the "does this make me look fat?" question for guys. It really means, "I need my ego flattered and pronto."
Besides, wouldn't someone rather hear, "You feel great, amazing, it's just right." or "Um.. you're so big, you hurt me. I don't actually enjoy sex with you very much because you poke me in the ovaries, which is much like kneeing you in the nuts, only you do it over and over." _________________ A person's character is their destiny. |
