bill maher makes me nuts, because on somethings he's very perceptive - but on medical science, he sounds like he's been listening to scientologists. so i have to force myself to remember, he's really just offering opinions - and i just like it when he gets off a really good zinger that matches my opinions. _________________ aka: neverscared! |

Today I learned that there's a chemical in fresh pineapples that breaks down the protein in your tongue and/or other parts of your mouth, which causes them to tingle after eating enough of them.
I also learned that this tingling is taking several hours to go away. _________________ "I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration." ~Frank Herbert, Dune |

The tingling is the best part. Canned pineapples suck because they do not contain the tingling. _________________ There is a luxury to self-reproach. |

that's why you can't use fresh pineapple in gelatin -- won't gel. _________________ dogs have owners

Makes it hard to eat things afterwards. Especially hot things. They feel EXTRA hot _________________ "I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration." ~Frank Herbert, Dune |

| Quote: | "In general, for weight loss, exercise is pretty useless," says Eric Ravussin, chair in diabetes and metabolism at Louisiana State University and a prominent exercise researcher. Many recent studies have found that exercise isn't as important in helping people lose weight as you hear so regularly in gym advertisements or on shows like The Biggest Loser — or, for that matter, from magazines like this one.
The basic problem is that while it's true that exercise burns calories and that you must burn calories to lose weight, exercise has another effect: it can stimulate hunger. That causes us to eat more, which in turn can negate the weight-loss benefits we just accrued. Exercise, in other words, isn't necessarily helping us lose weight. It may even be making it harder. |

well, this makes me feel better about the fact that i've been too tied up at work to get any exercise this week.
....although not so much about the blended cafe mocha (with whipped cream) i just consumed. _________________ aka: neverscared! |

While all that may be true... something ridiculously high, like 70%, of people who lost weight and kept it off for five years had a lifestyle change that included increased exercise (recalling from spring quarter here). So there's a benefit there somewhere. |

I haven't read any fancy studies on it or anything, but I've recently drastically increased my exercise level (biking downtown 30 min each way every day) and boy howdy am I ever seeing results!
I guess in my case, exercising makes me want to eat more, but the things I want to eat are really good. My body wants good food! |

The Elephant Man was produced by Mel Brooks. WTF?
Mind you, it always freaked me out that Michael Douglas - yeah, that one - is listed as a producer on the opening credits of One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest. _________________
