Wow, absolutely no interest in arguing the inherent worth of anime vs. some other media.

shows:
trigun, FLCL, samurai champloo, fullmetal alchemist and ghost in the shell
movies:
spirited away and princess mononoke
i'm not that into anime, but the ones i like have decent stories and the english dubbing (shown on adult swim) seems to be pretty good. of course i'm not one of those idiots who tries to claim that subtitles are the only way to watch anime, since they are just as translated as the dubbing and often the most literal translations end up making no sense. on that note, the subs for Champloo are neat because they have explanations for historical context/japanese phrases that wouldn't make much sense otherwise. |

FLCL is awesomeness
As is Nadesco and anything by Hayao Miyazaki
Kite & Mezzo Forte are also good (despite the insanely gratuitous sex scene tossed in the middle of both) |

Oh come one. Everybody needs a double penetration sex scene in the middle of the movie! ::rolls her eyes:: It was awful random, wasn't it. _________________ Before God created Las he pondered on all the aspects a woman might have, he considered which ones would look good super-inflated and which ones to leave alone.

Most disappointing ending ever.
Read the manga. In fact, read Tsubasa and xXx ~Holic~ They're some of the best I've read of late, and the whole "tie in" thing is really cool. _________________ "I see no good reasons why the views given in this volume should shock the religious sensibilities of anyone." -- Origin of Species |

Bastard!
Hey, it is a great series though I hear that the manga goes much further and is much more satisfying. _________________ Before God created Las he pondered on all the aspects a woman might have, he considered which ones would look good super-inflated and which ones to leave alone.

It's worth watching, but it'll make you angry at the end. _________________ "I see no good reasons why the views given in this volume should shock the religious sensibilities of anyone." -- Origin of Species |

Nobody has mentioned Bezerk - It is action packed, insanely violent, and has good writing (if you're into that kind of thing) _________________ Dot your eyes and cross your tees. |

Does that description hold true for manga too? I wouldn't dismiss that till you tried reading at least Death Note. |
i haven't seen much anime i like -- i just don't enjoy the visual style.
the only manga i've ever read and liked was lone wolf and cub, which i adored. but admittedly i have not read much -- again, the visual style isn't really for me. |

There's a reason for that, Berserk sucks.
Nobody has mentioned the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series either, and they certainly do not suck. |

Well, if it's suck you want, try Miyuki-chan in Wonderland. And here I thought it was going to be a witty Japanese retelling of Alice... boy was I wrong. Definitely not safe for kids. (And before some of you get your hopes up, it's not even good soft porn. It's just stupid.)
On the other hand, stupid as it was, All-purpose Cultural Cat-girl Nuku Nuku had me rolling on the floor. A cute fembot with the brain of a cat - priceless! But then, that should probably go in a 'Guilty Pleasures' thread... _________________
