Okay I need some good opinions on the anime Kill La Kill without having people scream murder and blood from all sides. I heard all kinds of things, how it's fanservice but with the awareness of it, female empowerment, creepy rape scenes, etc. So what's the deal? Can I watch it without feeling triggered? Can I deal with the fanservice or will it become too much?

Murder and blood from all sides? As a description of the reaction to it, not the subject matter? I know it's got a bit of a cult following and I've seen a couple of people descend into gibbering fan-ese over it, but when I think about the show itself I still have trouble imagining a reaction to it that's anything but tepid.

I watched the first couple of episodes a while back, and the "fanservice" (if you insist) was the least of my concerns. All that takes a backseat to the (often pervy) comedy and the action. The show just didn't really feel like it had any real substance to it. I got bored and lost interest fairly quickly.

I don't see how anyone could really get into it without being either a diehard fan of the group that made it (I also lost interest in that Tengen Toppa thing they're famous for) or way into a particular sort of light-hearted, flashy action sequences.

it did manage to get a couple of chuckles, facepalms, and a facepalm-groan-chuckle combo out of me, but nothing worth sticking around for

I'm probably not the right person to answer your real question, though, since I don't really understand the problem that you're worried about having. Soz.

If you have debilitating nightmares about overly-revealing sentient mini-power-mecha sailor uniforms latching onto you and feeding off your blood, you might want to stay away Rolling Eyes

I'm pretty much in agreement with all of this. I want to like it, but it just feels lacking, kinda empty.

Watch My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering with my School Romantic Comedy instead. It's turned out way better than I would have thought.

Actually, you should watch Log Horizon. It makes me want to play the MMORPG they're in. It's lots of laughs and fun. Also Strike the Blood and Beyond the Boundary are also better action anime choices from this season.

Also in the action genre, this season of Magi is WAY better than the first.

Unrelated, Yowapeda is a sports anime about cyclist and is surprisingly good and funny.

Again, go watch Log Horizon: http://www.crunchyroll.com/log-horizon

I've started reading Uzumaki.

This may have been a mistake.

EDIT: Finished reading Uzumaki. Almost certainly a mistake. If I have nightmares about spirals, I'm going to be annoyed.

I cannot recommend the anime Baccano! enough. It's set in the 1930s Prohibition Era in America, mostly based around the events that took place on a transcontinental train called 'The Flying Pussyfoot', which three different groups try to hijack at the same time. A group of black suits, trying to use the train as leverage to free their leader, a group of white suits led by a homicidal maniac who hates people who don't think they're going to die more than anything, and a group of delinquents who are trying to steal explosives stored in the cargo hold of the train. Did I mention there are also immortals on board?

This is one of the few anime in which I truly believe the dub is better than the sub. The english voice actors are amazing, and it makes more sense for everyone to be speaking english with american accents in this series anyway. Seriously, even if you're a die-hard subs-over-dubs person, just listen to the english version for an episode to see.

It's based on a light novel series by Ryogo Narita, which if you enjoy the anime I would highly recommend reading. I can give you links to the translations or even email you the files.

Ok, it's official: I like Log Horizon better than Sword Art Online. For all the good things about SAO, I think it has this subtle (sometimes not so much) secondary tone of melodrama. Log Horizon ain't got time for that. It's story takes place at the dawn of the greatest mod update ever, spades got digging to do, diamonds got shinies to get, clubs got players to bash!

So back in 2004 when I was in college, my anime club decided to make a fandub. We had a great membership that got along really well, and we wanted to do something special since most of us were looking at the end of our college days soon. We ended up fandubbing The Legend of Crystania movie and re-titling it The Secret of Crystania.

I had seen the finished fandub several times, but my friends were never able to get the finishing touches stuff done in order to print dvds. Finally this Christmas, my friend got it all done and dvds printed. I got mine in time for my birthday yesterday. Smile

Anyways, you should be able to download the full fandub movie here or watch it in the player. *note* To this date, no cast member has ever seen The Legend of Crystania in English or knows the real story. We only knew the characters that also appeared in Record of Lodoss War (Ashram & Pirotess). I voice acted Pirotess in the fandub.

Anyone else watching Hozuki no Reitetsu? It's basically Buddhist Hell from the view of the middle management who run it and is funny as fuck.

Assassination Classroom (Ansatsu Kyōshitsu).

Very much in the WTF category. But probably in a good way. I think. Maybe.

The easiest way I cold describe it is "The kind of series Ashirogi Muto would put out in Bakuman!" because it's non-standard yet completely by the book at the same time. It simply does everything really, really well. From art, story, character design, pacing, etc. --- it's all near or absolutely flawless. While there are many other series I personally like more (although I do really like it), I would hazard to say that few series are done better, even moreso within the scope of it's own genre, which is only proven by it's insane popularity in Shonen Jump.

Don't worry, you guys helped me more than you think. Razz

I did watch Log Horizon actually. I'm not too big a fan, to be honest. When they started to involve the NPCs the plot finally got great but before that it felt like they were just pissing in the rain or something useless.

Baccano! is fan-fucking-tastic. Watch it, watch it now!

I'm planning to watch Kyousougiga. I heard it was good.

Have you read the novel translations? If you were a fan of the anime I would highly recommend it! There's even some that take place in the early 2000s, plus a whole bunch of backstory for the older immortals like Maiza in the books set in the 1700s.

Actually, they just addressed this, as in "Oh shit, we've been fucking around while time kept on marching"

On an unrelated note, these 123,000 yen dolls ($1,179.57 american) sold out in 90 minutes:

Oh yeah, and there's this: http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2014/01/21/madhouse-animates-marvels-avengers-confidential-black-widow-and-punisher

Which makes me wonder if we could ever see an dAvengers/Peanuts cross over. . . what? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madhouse_(company)
