Wait, you are saying a comic about God drawing in different styles has religious overtones? Sorry, I'm not seeing it.

Yeah, I'm probably just reading too much into it. My train of thought went something like this:

1) the hand of God is in every frame;
2) well, every frame except the last one;
3) why wouldn't it be in the last one?
4) the last one is very pretty (as was mentioned at the beginning of this thread)
5) the last one is a 'natural' sky
6) God has been responsible for different configurations of clouds (in the form of artwork) in the previous panels
7) God is presumably responsible for the beauty of an ordinary sunset
8) therefore the hand of God is also in the last frame
9) blah etc

I'm not saying it was deliberate or intentional, it's just how it eventually occurred to me, especially considering the effort taken to put the hand in every frame, except the last. Gosh, I do love trying to follow thoughts to figure out how you got from A to B. Contrived? Possibly. Possible? Certainly :-)

I've done a quick search and all I can find on the matter is that 'clock hand' is indicative of a pointer or dial index, usage of which dates to 1575.
