I can give you the Catholic angle, at any rate. It'll be a sin, just like all other kinds of contraception. All birth control pills are sinfull, the ones that are abortifacients are merely horrific on top of that.

read anything about pregnancy rates in kids who have taken the chastity pledge?
if you are counting on never succumbing to temptation, you may experience a certain failure rate.

if you succeed in staying abstinent, yes. problem is, a lot of people who intend to remain abstinent fail to do so. now that might not _technically_ count as failure rate (in the way that someone who religiously takes the pill and gets pregnant anyway is counted in the failure rate)....but practically, from my perspective, it does.

pregnancies due to improper usage are included in many failure rate statistics.
also there is one widely accepted case of pregnancy while abstinent. and many unproven claims. (mostly by teenagers.  ) |

Only the low dose birth control pills work like an "abortifacient." The higher dose versions stop the egg from ever dropping. Some fundies have issues with birth control because of the low dose versions.
I am a fan of male birth control. It has already been said, but reducing the "I forgot my pills for three days, whoops I'm pregnant" is a good thing.
I thought the Pope was thinking about allowing some form of birth control or was I hallucinating...
