As many men who have had vasectomies can say, it looks exactly the same.

and i wonder how various religious groups will react to this. some are against women taking the pill - ostensibly because it sort of acts like an abortifacient, in that it prevents implantation. i wonder if they will be supportive of pharmacists who don't want to give it out because of their beliefs - or if any one will have any problem giving it out at all?

I can give you the Catholic angle, at any rate. It'll be a sin, just like all other kinds of contraception. All birth control pills are sinfull, the ones that are abortifacients are merely horrific on top of that.

Lord knows with the fundies.

read anything about pregnancy rates in kids who have taken the chastity pledge?

if you are counting on never succumbing to temptation, you may experience a certain failure rate.

I'm pretty sure abstinence still has a 100% effective birth control rate Mouse.

if you succeed in staying abstinent, yes. problem is, a lot of people who intend to remain abstinent fail to do so. now that might not _technically_ count as failure rate (in the way that someone who religiously takes the pill and gets pregnant anyway is counted in the failure rate)....but practically, from my perspective, it does.

pregnancies due to improper usage are included in many failure rate statistics.

also there is one widely accepted case of pregnancy while abstinent. and many unproven claims. (mostly by teenagers. Razz)

I'm with mouse on this one, abstinence only works if used right, which it rarely is. A promise doesn't mean much of anything unless you stick to it.

Now you can sing along

Quote:
There are Jews in the world.
There are Buddhists.
There are Hindus and Mormons, and then
There are those that follow Mohammed, but
I've never been one of them.

I'm a Roman Catholic,
And have been since before I was born,
And the one thing they say about Catholics is:
They'll take you as soon as you're warm.

You don't have to be a six-footer.
You don't have to have a great brain.
You don't have to have any clothes on. You're
A Catholic the moment Dad came,

Because

Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.

CHILDREN:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.

GIRL:
Let the heathen spill theirs
On the dusty ground.
God shall make them pay for
Each sperm that can't be found.

CHILDREN:
Every sperm is wanted.
Every sperm is good.
Every sperm is needed
In your neighbourhood.

MUM:
Hindu, Taoist, Mormon,
Spill theirs just anywhere,
But God loves those who treat their
Semen with more care.

MEN:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
WOMEN:
If a sperm is wasted,...
CHILDREN:
...God get quite irate.

PRIEST:
Every sperm is sacred.
BRIDE and GROOM:
Every sperm is good.
NANNIES:
Every sperm is needed...
CARDINALS:
...In your neighbourhood!

CHILDREN:
Every sperm is useful.
Every sperm is fine.
FUNERAL CORTEGE:
God needs everybody's.
MOURNER #1:
Mine!
MOURNER #2:
And mine!
CORPSE:
And mine!

NUN:
Let the Pagan spill theirs
O'er mountain, hill, and plain.
HOLY STATUES:
God shall strike them down for
Each sperm that's spilt in vain.

EVERYONE:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is good.
Every sperm is needed
In your neighbourhood.

Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite iraaaaaate!

Only the low dose birth control pills work like an "abortifacient." The higher dose versions stop the egg from ever dropping. Some fundies have issues with birth control because of the low dose versions.

I am a fan of male birth control. It has already been said, but reducing the "I forgot my pills for three days, whoops I'm pregnant" is a good thing.

I thought the Pope was thinking about allowing some form of birth control or was I hallucinating...
