-A) You know you're making sense at all times, because you know when you're not making sense. By subtracting when you are making sense from when you aren't making sense, or when you aren't making sense from when you are, whichever is greater, you obtain a difference (or deviation).
-B) The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive you from not making sense to making sense, arriving at a statement where you aren't not making sense, or are making sense.
--Ba) In the event that the sense your statement now is making, is not being made, the guidance subsystem has acquired a variation. Variations are caused by external factors, the discussion of which are beyond the scope of this report.
--Bb) A variation is the difference between when your statement is not making sense and when it was. If the variation is considered to be a factor of significant magnitude, a correction may be applied by the use of the Do Not Hit Submit system.
