The end of faith and letter to a christian nation, shoutout to Sam harris
not to mention another shamless plug about how certain religions are still affecting us to this day. _________________

You mean if you break one, you may as well be guilty of breaking them all. Stealing does not actually make you guilty of murder. The point of that line is just that sin is sin, and always bad.
| MellowFish wrote: | | If you do not have god as the center in your life, you are not worshipping him, you are worshipping something else. |
No. No, no, no, no, no. That's quite simply and directly not true. It's just not. It's points like this that make me think you aren't taking this conversation seriously. This is so obviously nonsensical that nobody should even be able to say it.
It's like I came up to you, "Are you playing basketball? No? Then clearly you must be playing tennis." The one just does not follow from the other.
| MellowFish wrote: | | genesis does say "for this reason a man wll leave his father and mother and be united with his wife and the two shall become one flesh." |
This is not an argument against polygamy. There is no emphasis on the "two." In fact, the word "two" just isn't there in the Hebrew. So that doesn't work at all. Further, even if the word had been there, there were... how many people at the time? two? Well, that would seem to explain why there were only two people having sex, now wouldn't it?
| MellowFish wrote: | | Just becuase somthing happened a bunch doesn't mean it was what god had in mind for people. |
Sure... but when that something happened a bunch, by a large number of people God loved, whose lives are held up as examples of what it means to be obedient and faithful and "after God's own heart" it does mean you should actually have some reason for condemning the practice more than "well, the Bible doesn't say it's right, either."
| MellowFish wrote: | | And in the new testament, church elders and deacons (at least) were supposed to only have one wife. |
If having more than one wife were sinful, the advice wouldn't have been "leaders only get one wife" but rather "no one should take more than one wife." The very fact that the subject is brought up and distinctly not condemned at all implies very strongly that it is not sinful.
| MellowFish wrote: | | While it may not be wrong per se to have multiple wives, it is wrong to go after indulgence of the flesh (even in marriage) instead of god. |
There's no reason for you to add the "per se." You're squirming and dodging instead of conversing honestly. It is not condemned as wrong, period. And why would you think polygamy is "going after indulgence of the flesh?" That's just not the case with polygamy any more than with monogamy, meaning it's a total non-argument.
| MellowFish wrote: | | Ah well I thought you might be smarter than that so I left it unsaid. |
You didn't actually answer her, so she mocked you by "misunderstanding" you. Stop being a dick. _________________ "To love deeply in one direction makes us more loving in all others."

God ist ficticious dooshven bloogie, and religion is full of crackpots, as MellowFish is ably demonstrating with his condescension, closed-mindedness, and now his insulting signature.

Wanting to use them against the people that those words now describe is. Your sig gives the distinct impression that the people those words describe in modern lingo -stole- them or something. As if its dispicable for the words to have had their extended meanings include something so attrocious.
It's very condescending. |

gay = joyful, exuberant
YES I AM, and Damn proud of it! Much to the annoyance of several of my co-workers.
faggot = pile of wood
You were close on this one, but still missed a large part of the history on the term Faggot
fairy = mythical nymph
Which is exactly what most conservative christian people think homosexuals are: Mythical (they beleive they aren't really born that way) Nymph (personification of the creative and fostering activities of nature, most often identified with the life-giving outflow of springs).
And for the record, there is a huge difference in Fairy and Nymph
dyke = misspelled dike = sea wall
You are incorrect, it is spelled DYKE |

This is one of the reasons it's not very interesting to converse with you. Your motive has nothing to do with "using traditional meanings of words," and to claim it does, as you have, is dishonest.

Dammit, Pete. "Ditto" was originally used to avoid repetition of month names in a series of dates, not this cheap coarsening to include any repetition of words. Is this some homosexual obsession, the twisting of all words? |
