i think that it was probably pointing out that that kind of praying is pointless, not saying that it works. anyway, it seems to be a better comic if its looked at that way, and Tat normally seems to be pretty deep, so i'm gonna assume that he did it on purpose.

Without the third panel, the fourth panel would be kind of stupid, don't ya think?

obviously, you have never been, or even seen, a small child (particularly a girl-child) beg for something she really wants, but suspects she is going to be refused (with good reason). this is _exactly_ how you do it - many many pleases and then the big puppy-dog eyes. without the two middle panels, she is just a heartless bitch. with them, she is (as the tag-line says) cute overload.
