Because when Civilization as we knows it collapses you will. Of course that is if you survive the war, starvation and diesease that will happen first. It'll be so much fun . _________________ Pooh-yi! |

| Given the wealth of readily available materials and structures we have around, I'd say it's much more likely that we'd live like the Ingles on the prairie. |

I think that all my late nights eating Doritos and posting on forums has given me all the nessesary skills to live comfortably in a post-apocalyptical Mad Max society.
That and a blocked colon. |

Precisely why keeping a midget and a retard isn't crazy; it's prudent financial planning. _________________ All our final decisions are made in a state of mind that is not going to last. - Marky Mark Proust |

| Hey, I don't hang out with them now. But given the situation perhaps they would have a decent idea what to do. |

Doubtful. You'd honestly be better off living with the crazy redneck militiamen, because they've actually stockpiled enough goods to survive while you teach yourself to live in a post apocalyptic world. As well as the firepower to defend yourselves from the inevitable breakdown of society and mass panic that would ensue.
Also living with douchebags like the primitivists is hardly life. |

| We'd be like the Borrowers, only substantially larger. |

I recommend living on an island that's large enough to support complex society, but yet isn't so crowded that there would be mass die-offs. Also, you want to make sure it isn't incredibly remote. Good choices might be New Zealand, Tasmania, Hokkaido(maybe- I don't know the population density), New Guinea, Hawaii(but not on the big island), Iceland(if it can continue to get power from geothermal sources and raise enough food to support itself), Jamaica, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, Madagascar, Sri Lanka...
Of course, mainland survival is possible as long as overpopulation isn't a problem due to the break down of industrialized farming. In some cases it would be better to live on the mainland than on an island, especially if the island is densely populated like Honshu or Java or Manhattan or Great Britain. |

my boyfriend's dad is one of those. he's got a huuuuge stockpile of survival stuff (including tons of mre's) and he's always cleaning his gun when i come over. his stated reason for having so much firepower is that he wants to be ready when 'johnny jihad' comes. i'm a little bit terrified of him.
oh, and he also hunts squirrels with a crossbow. |

NO HE SERIOUSLY DOES
I SWEAR TO GOD
and mre's are 'meals ready to eat'.

DISCLAIMER: i actually have never seen him kill a squirrel with a crossbow, but he does have a crossbow and says it's for hunting squirrels, and my boyfriend says he does. |

There are a multitude of skills which would be handy in a primitive situation and the ability to hit a squirrel with a crossbow sure ought to qualify. Basic outdoor skills plus tanning and curing of meats and stuff would all be handy.
Sounds like the guy is better equipped to survive than I am, anyway. _________________ A government's principal occupation lies in curtailing and eliminating the natural freedoms of its citizens and then flimflamming them into paying for the service. ....Thorax |
