Gray tones? Looks like master Tats is trying new styles.
I just noticed yesterday's comic used a few tones too, but it wasn't as unusual as in this one. That gave the characters a fresh look, and I like it!

Funny, tones and gradients are how I used to color the backgrounds in my contest entries.

I like the effect that they have in the comic. Also like the large HA from 'Nique Smile

there are two HAs in AHA, one forward and one backward, sharing the H, which makes it very strong, being symmetrical.
