"well maybe [x] lied." is not meaningful dialogue.

so the bible is always right, is that what you're saying? Everyone should know the bible didn't care about facts at all, that's why keign's answer wasn't enough
things like myths are as reliable as the bible itself, so if this myth about this girl being jesus girlfriend truly exist, it should be mentioned

Ok if you're going to go that step of believing the bible enough to believe that myth (ie Jesus does exist), you can't turn around and pick and choose what the bible is telling the truth about or is lying about.

And if you're going to attempt to do that, you're going to need a better source to lend credibility to your myth that you remember reading somewhere, sometime, someplace.

Are you fucking with me?

Not only have I said nothing of the sort, but neither did Keign. Are you even reading these posts before responding to them?

Keign's answer amounted to: "Not impossible, I suppose, but no reason to think so." There is no resemblence between that and the inerrancy claim you are reacting against.

Did you just see the word "Bible" and get so excited you prematurely shot off your meagre witticism of "Hur, hur, Jesus wuz sexed."?

Damn it, man, my Da Vinci Code dismissal was so elegantly condescending, and you just fucking wasted it by being a total putz.

And how could you possibly take "33.8 times as reliable" seriously? Gah! You're making a total traveshamockery out of this conversation.

the Bible itself is a common myth with no credible evidence to support it.

the "your unrequited love" tagline made today's comic for me.

I could start a myth that Jesus wore stripy shirts, and it wouldn't make it any more/or less true (that he really did/didn't)

In fact, it probabally wouldn't catch on pretty well as a myth, either.

there's this one thing about the bible - it's popular enough that there is even a website which allows you to actually search for various words!

if you do a search for 'magdalene', you get 13 hits, among them
luke 8:1-3: "1After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, 2and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; 3Joanna the wife of Cuza, the manager of Herod's household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means."

this image of mary is confirmed in mark 16:9: "9When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons."

so, she was a woman he healed, and who was grateful enough to help fund his preachings, and interested enough in them to stick around.

the remaining verses all have to do with mary being present at jesus' death and burial (along with his mother and a few other women, the disciples all making themselves scarce).

no mention of her being a girlfriend or a prostitute or sleeping with anyone at all. the prostitute was some other mary (apparently 2/3 of the women in israel at that time were named 'mary'); her identification with mary magdalene goes back to pope gregory the great, who lumped all the marys except jesus' mother into one person in a sermon in 591, for reasons of his own, no doubt. (the catholic church has recently, but quietly, announced that according to the text of the bible, magdalene was not the prostitute.)

honestly, people, there really _is_ more on the internet than porn....
