Why the hell is Ramen so popular?

I find it salty and not all that great.

I think this japanese influence is going too far. Evil or Very Mad

Why is Ramen popular? Where to begin (speaking as a college student)...

It's cheap
It's easy to make
It's made quickly
It comes in a variety of flavors
It's an entire meal in a bowl
If you're too lazy to get your own bowl, it comes with one (Cup O' Noodles)
You only need a fork to eat it
The customization possibility (don't want the included packet? Add cheese!)

Ramen is popular because it is brutally cheap, when you got no other options it's one of the best ways of stretching your budget.

And I say brutally because you could buy a big enough case of it to brain somebody with for about a dollar.

I'm a University student myself.

We just make our own food.

Why? Because if you take the time to figure out how to cook it can be just as cheap.

If not cheaper... and waaay more healthy.

And better tasting.

And it's a useful tool to have when trying to pick up women.

ya. 'cus i hate the fact that the comic written by a guy named Tatsuya Ishida has the occasional Japaneses culture reference..... Rolling Eyes

that said, ramen is a major staple of American college students, and I think it was implied that the pig was basically a frat boy.

I hate sarcasm on the internet.

It's so pointless.

but the sarcasm did have a point.

it made a point of disagreeing with your opinion, by expressing the opinion that Japanese influence is to be expected and celebrated in a comic written by a Japanese-American person.

it also made a point of making your opinion sound stupid, by use of a common speech pattern.

also,

how is 'sarcasm on the Internet' different from 'sarcasm in general'
would you argue that it is all 'pointless'?

Yeah it's terrible, almost as pointless as complaining about it.

EDIT: Beat to it, curse you and your speedy fingers Yen!

It tastes good too. I like it. Throw some frozen California style vegetables in while it's boiling, and you actually get nutrients!

So I'm guessing this Ramen would be the same as Two Minute Noodles here - plus an extra minute. Yeah, tis also a staple diet of the uni student, but comes in many cancerous flavours. Brilliant stuff!

I'm kinda like Squig in the sense that whenever I cook anything like this, I'm quite thorough in having the timing right. Better to be safe than sorry imo!

Mmm.. ramen, staple food of swedish students. Except me, I love cooking so I haven't had a ordinary bowl of ramen in ...4-5months or something. But I do have ten or so in backup if I can't be arsed to cook or the budget get's shot to hell.

But yeah, gabriel nailed most reasons why ramen is great.
