Maybe this was the april fools comic, and Slick didn't really sell his soul at all.

Hasn't it already been established that Slick's selling his soul to the Devil is never a done deal? He did it before, but wound up backing out while his fancy new life was supposedly in the mail.

I'd say that's one heck of a strip, folks, no words and yet so expressive.

i donīt like this new, "grown-up" expression of slickīs feelings towards nique. slick mature? wtf??
where did the "you are my slutty bag of ho, but still you own me" thing go?
couldnīt that situation be maintained? really, for several weeks, i find myself thinking: "yeah, somewhen this week, theyīll finally come together."
BUT THIS MUST NOT HAPPEN!
it would possibly make the universe end. or at least sinfest. and at least the second would be damn sad.

*brrrr*, i just imagined storylines with slick and monique as a couple. scary.

You silly, silly man.

For having previously seen them as canon, or for no longer seeing them as canon?

No for actually saying that the Sunday strips aren't really canon. Which is pretty true.

Remember that time Squigley because pigzilla? Why does Tat never refer to that anymore? Man, this comic's continuity sucks.

Also, where is the sinfest movie he promised?

And, remember that time the earth was attacked by aliens, hit by meteors, flooded, and the hurricane that took Slick? Man, the next strips never reflected that. Lousy continuity there.

Selling one's soul isn't a one-time deal. It's a reference to all of the little evil things one does to gain wealth, fame, power, etc.

Like Slick's getting no fame from his poetry. Selling his soul would be stealing someone else's art and passing it off as his own, or maybe injuring someone so he could get their spot onstage, or perhaps compromising a gift to put out stuff he thinks is actually awful, but he knows will be popular anyway.

Slick never successfully sells his soul because deep down, the wealth, fame, power, etc. really aren't worth enough to him for him to turn to the dark side.

Of course, he is tempted, all the time, but he never quite gets there. I think it's pretty fair to say that the relationship with 'Nique is actually the why we never see the deal go through.

To be honest, Slick's poetry isn't that good.

Monique has had some good stuff, but it's all simple beat and spoken word poetry... not really the type of stuff that gets a person famous.

I think Slick and Monique could hook it up, at least for a little while. It would simply explore an entire different side of society that Tat hasn't looked at yet.

But maybe that wont happen until Tat has a girlfriend, if he doesn't already.

To be fair on the continuity side, a meteor once hit outside a sunday strip ('think fast') and was promptly ignored, and the sinfest movie wasn't even tied into the plot.

Usually people just ignore text. I'm impressed. It takes a lot of blinkering to ignore big, pretty pictures.
