A weed in a general sense is a plant, usually wild or feral, that is considered by the speaker to be a nuisance in a garden, lawn, or other agricultural development.

thanks. then how the hell is your grass a weed when, by definition, a weed is something you don't want?

a weed is, more generally, any plant that reproduces and spreads especially agressively.

form wikipedia on grass:
Quote:
They include some more specialised crops such as lemongrass, as well as many ornamental plants, and some weeds.

Just to move the conversation away from weed... I believe Tat is making a commentary on the way art is perceived; particularly when the message that that the artist is trying to communicate is not explicitly stated in the work.

It doesn't even have to be art. The same situation could present itself in a conversation. Everyone could be talking in great lengths about their opinions on some subject and the last one to talk just makes a very brief and complex metaphor. Even if if everyone understands what he means, they are just going to think that he is a cryptic bastard.

Tat makes strips every day. I am sure that at some point he was thinking himself to be pretty clever about a metaphor made in one of the strips, and the reaction from the audience (which is not limited to us, even if it seems some people in here would like to think that) was of indifference because it was too cryptic.

It could also be a show of self criticism. Perhaps at some point he liked the way a strip conveyed an idea, but now he feel like he was just being a cryptic bastard.

I don't know. I do know I am pulling the argument by the hairs, but that whole weed discussion was starting to become boring (that kind of conversation is usually more fun).

Perhaps I tried to help but brought up something even more boring. If that is the case, I am sincerely sorry

Strange... I just figured it was one of those "Life is that simple, the road to enlightenment is right in front of you all you have to do is see it." But then Slick who represents an average man can't help but over think it.
