Might want to contact the developer and let them know about the issue. Be sure to tell them which model of phone you're using.

On Simcity:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-57573053-1/simcity-launch-a-complete-disaster/

Quote:
CNET Editor Jeff Bakalar, assigned to review SimCity, ran into problems trying to connect at least wice a day since Tuesday: "I had planned on reviewing the game for launch -- and I'm not joking here -- I've yet to been able to even play the game. Once."

As of this post, there's 24,372 signatures for this:

https://www.change.org/petitions/electronic-arts-inc-remove-always-online-drm-from-simcity-and-future-games

I like this from the petition, which pretty much sums up everything:

Quote:
I want to be able to a single player game offline, and use the online capabilities at my own discretion. I know that Simcity can't be changed now, but in the future you should consider that. I also expected a multi-billion dollar company to be able to handle release-day server load. This was pathetic, and as a consumer, I for one will not be purchasing games from EA in the future.

http://penny-arcade.com/report/editorial-article/amazon-pulls-simcity-ea-removes-features-from-the-game-everything-else-is-f

Hahahahaha

Feels way too much like when Steam pulled The WarZ. I mean, it's not that bad, but there are similarities: giant online distributor pulls game from sale as a result of angry fans, persistent server issues, and oh look, advertised features that aren't actually in the game in its current state.

It’s impressive to hear about EA being surprised by the number of people wanting to play the game: What company fails to plan for success? Stay away.

This is why I miss Ben Kuchera at Ars.

*Edit* It gets worse.

*double Editler* And NFL personality Chris Cluwe really drives it home. I think I just mixed up my sports references. Who cares?

So I have a friend who is finishing up a kickstarter for what will, I think, be a really, really cool concept for a game. Would it be bad form to post a link to the kickstarter (and/or, more helpfully, a few news articles helping show that yes, it is a real thing and not a scam?) Just trying to help him out, but I also understand it could be poor form.

I dunno, as long as you don't make a habit of spamming links I don't think it'd be a problem.

No guarantees reception of it will be warm, but I'd check it out at least.

VERY WELL.

The kickstarter!
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1544851629/throw-trucks-with-your-mind

An article that helps verify this is a real thing!

http://venturebeat.com/2013/02/25/throw-trucks-with-your-mind-is-the-best-star-wars-game-ever-preview/ttwym-lat/

The premise!:
Basically, my friend has taken an EEG headset and crafted a game where it is used as a periphal to power your abilities in the game. Your focus and calm (Beta/Gamma and Alpha brainwaves respectively) can power various psychokinetic abilities: Push, jump, deflect, pull, etc. It is, as he has joked, 'competitive meditation training': The better you can focus (or remain calm), the more powerful the abilities.

I've actually tried the basic framework of the game a year ago, and it works, and it's pretty damn cool. It's evolved a bit since then.

Somewheres there's an actual kickstarter thread.

Oh man, I totally forgot about the kickstarter thread, sorry. Woulda mentioned it otherwise.

Anyway, video games.... hmmmm, yeah, I'm still playing Sims3 but I still haven't enrolled any of them into college yet.

Just to clear up any lingering confusion, EA isn't going to refund anybody who bought SimCity 5 through their digital store, and if you try to dispute the charges with your credit card company you will be banned from EA's Origin service.

I would really like to think that this is the tipping point which either forces a policy change or sees EA collapse on itself, but too many people still suck it up and ask for more abuse (i.e. they keep buying EA's games).
