EXECUTIVES AT DISNEY ADMIT TO SMOKING CRACK
Also, they gave EA exclusive rights to future star wars games.

Yeah, not surprised, and don't really care.

Also to what point and click games are you referring? I noticed some of the games you mentioned seem to be only for PS3, which is sadface for me because I'm definitely not getting a new console anytime soon.

Richard and Alice. No spoilers as I just got started, but I'm already loving it.

WHY THE HELL AM I STILL PLAYING THIS???

This is ridiculous. It's just ascii art and candy. It seems that eating candy increases your max health but you can also use it to upgrade your sword.

I still have no idea as to why I would throw candy on the ground actually. And why farming lollipops takes so much time.

Humble Double Fine Bundle!
Costume Quest, Stacking, and the Psychonauts game + soundtracks 1 and 2 are available at any price. Paying more than average gets you Brutal Legend and its soundtrack. $35 will get you a preorder for the Kickstarter'd project Broken Age. $70 will get you a T-shirt (make sure you meet the minimum system requirements).
All the games are Mac/Win/Lin and DRM-free (just in case the last few Humble sales threw you off).

I'm playing the beta demo of a game called Papers, Please.

It's a "Dystopian Document Thriller"

Quote:
The communist state of Arstotzka has ended a 6-year war with neighboring Kolechia and reclaimed its rightful half of the border town, Grestin.

Your job as immigration inspector is to control the flow of people entering the Arstotzkan side of Grestin from Kolechia. Among the throngs of immigrants and visitors looking for work are hidden smugglers, spies, and terrorists. Using only the documents provided by travelers and the Ministry of Admission's primitive inspect, search, and fingerprint systems you must decide who can enter Arstotzka and who will be turned away or arrested.

it's totally great.

you can get the eight day demo here

This is pretty much my job, but in a happy 90s graphics motif.

Who am I kidding, this is the more exciting version of my job.

i'm officially addicted. i have a triple-powerful sword of summoning on one character and a triple-powerful sword of flames on the other. both lollipop farms are maxing out at 100 lp/s and i'm pretty much ignoring the rest of my life.

:/

The best part is that I can play Trackmania2 Canyon while waiting for my quest timer to cool down or my candies/lollipops to rack up.

I'm only at the damn Castle Gate right now (EDIT: Nevermind, one BERSERK potion got me through), and have a level 6 Sword of Life, one maxed lollipop farm, 5 candies/sec. Maybe I'll start another file, might wait a bit.

Anyone get to the end, yet? Is there an end?

And does anyone know what dropped candies do? Other than make a sad face next to the counter? I have 1000 down there and nothing yet.

there's something akin to a final boss, and then a bit of extra content beyond that

There's no further change after 100 candies thrown ON THE GROUND ;_;

Eh? It's collecting candies that's slow.

It costs 335,500,000 lollipops to upgrade to a candy production rate that's faster than the maximum lollipop farming rate, which takes about 39 days of farming lollipops to attain, assuming you don't use the wishing well (or have a horn of plenty... it could take just a couple of days with the proper combination of both).

I've done the math

Code:

candies.lhs

This program calculates the cost of obtaining different rates of collecting candies at http://candies.aniwey.net/ in klp (thousands of lollipops)

The "Candies, faster candies!" spell increases candy production to each number in the fibbonacci sequence for the cost of 10x^2 klp. You start out with 1 cps (candy per second) and the first upgrade to 2 cps costs 40klp. The infinite list of possible rates of candy production is given by:

> rates = 1 : 2 : zipWith (+) rates (tail rates)

and the cost at each step is 10*(the rate)^2

> cost x = 10 * x * x

It doesn't cost anything to have a candy production rate of 1 cps, so we only apply the cost function to the tail to calculate the infinite list of costs of upgrading

> costs = 0 : map cost (tail rates)

The list of total costs is given by the list of cumulative sums

> totalCosts = scanl1 (+) costs

now we build an infinite list of (rate, cost, total cost) tuples

> costTuples = zip3 rates costs totalCosts

and make it nicely readable

> prettyOutputs = map (\(r, c, t) -> putStrLn $ "Upgrade to " ++ show r ++ " cps production costs " ++ show c ++ " klp for a total cost of " ++ show t ++ " klp") costTuples

finally, we get the program's output by stringing this list of IO actions together

> main = foldl1 (>>) (take 20 prettyOutputs) -- use whatever number of upgrades you want to calculate out to

the output wrote:
Upgrade to 1 cps production costs 0 klp for a total cost of 0 klp
Upgrade to 2 cps production costs 40 klp for a total cost of 40 klp
Upgrade to 3 cps production costs 90 klp for a total cost of 130 klp
