Why are South Korean/Japanese MMOs so scared of PoC?

I missed this, but here's an understated issue: There's a still a HUGE amount of racism from Japan towards Korea (not sure to what degree it goes the other way, but the Koreans could easily be argued as being highly xenophobic themselves). It's the reason why Korean published Manwha never is animated in Japan (it's different if they're a Korean author in a Japanese publication) and sadly carries over to video games. Basically, it's a bunch of stodgy old conservative Japanese guys with money who don't want to 'lower' themselves to accepting 'help' from Koreans . . . which is kinda funny because the Koreans win either way.

Mind you, this is all way more complicated than I'm making it out to be, but that's soup to nuts.

My understanding is that anti-Japanese sentiment in Korea is the result of activities during WWII - notably, relocating Korean women into Japan to use as prostitutes for Japanese soldiers. As far as I know, there hasn't been an official apology, and occasionally some Japanese politician will say something revolting about it, and the the Koreans are angry over that.

Most of what I know has to do with North Korea, who are decidedly more angry as their whole official culture revolves around the Korean war. They seem to hate Japan more than they hate the US, which is impressive. (Note: That's the official stuff from the NK government. At least some North Koreans believe it, but a growing number of North Koreans know what their government says is untrustworthy. It's hard to tell what most of them actually think.)

South Korea is much more open and modern, and the younger people appear not to care as much. As far as I know, it's up in the air how the majority of South Koreans feel about Japan.

I just figured out how Nintendo can save the Wii U: Secure an exclusive deal with Square Enix for a Chrono Trigger Sequel. The main selling point needs to be the following: No DLC, no subscription, just the entire game from the day you buy it.

If I remember my history classes correctly there was also a bunch of other horrifying atrocities committed by japan during the invasion of southeast asia (in korea and in china if I remember right). Sometimes history sucks. =\. Those classes are pretty foggy at this point b/c I had them over ten years ago, but I think the racism was already there then. I'm sorry, but I can't remember if there were any horrifying atrocities in the other direction or if the japanese troops that were stationed there were in such a position of power that they could commit them w/o any action the other way. The whole ball of wax is surely more complicated then my knowledge of it makes it out to be.

And umm...how about those season 4 changes in league right? (/on topic) =p

Yes, Japan did loads of horrible things in WWII. I'm sure there was already racism, but the current stuff has the atrocities at the center. I think it's like anytime countries are in close proximity - at some point, everyone has conquered or bullied everyone else, and those resentments stick around and fuel new fights.

I have a book written just before the war ended called "What To Do With Japan." It has suggestions like putting Korea in charge of everyone, and we must be nice and support China. Basically, it suggested playing tetris with Asia's power dynamics - which we haven't yet learned is a disastrous thing to do with other countries.

Random note: I feel like Bioware missed an excellent opportunity in Mass Effect 3. Imagine a new game plus mode where you could play as any of the multiplayer classes you had unlocked.

Imagine a giant pink Krogan with a biotic hammer and Jennifer Hale's voice.

Already purchased mine for the DLC for Civ V. I want to gift the copy of Civ V I got with it to hubby since I already have it. If he wants it that is.

So this is kind of meta but honest to gods this is my favorite forum for discussing games because everywhere else people just blow shit up all the way to freaking pluto and stop talking about, y'now, GAMES. It's also great that we can discuss problematic elements in games without derailing it to the high heavens so that we can get back on track when we want to.

That's all, keep as you are.

Hey question: did you ever play Gothic 3? If so, what did you think? Personally, here in the states, it's probably one of the most underrated RPG's of all time, at least IMHO.

I have not but I might check it out. I love discovering good old RPGs. I see it's also on Steam. Do you need to understand a bit about 1 and 2 to get the whole plot?
