For instance, there's a couple of projects going on right now to redefine the kilogram in a manner that's more accurate and that doesn't alter over time (the various reference kilo weights have historically been problematic), so there's one kind of incremental-improvement project that's looking to better measure a more resilient reference weight, and another charmingly bonkers (yet scientifically valid) project where they're looking to define the kilogram by making a reference weight that's a sphere of pure silicon and then counting the atoms (defining Avogadro's Number on the way, which I think is awesome). So when these projects complete, and ideally agree, there'll be a new reference point for the kilo, using the international system for maintaining accurate weights and measures... and this will feed through into the grain, which will remain defined as 64.79891 grams. So the gram will probably have changed slightly, and the grain will change as a result...

Do you have evidence to support this? It could be true, but nothing you've said makes it necessarily true. A conversion rate doesn't mean a thing is based on the thing into which it can be converted. You'd have to show evidence that changes were unidirectional - that changes in the standard kilo affected changes in the grain, but that no changes in the imperial system changed things in the metric system.

If they're connected, then changes in the kilo should change the weight of a grain. If they're unconnected, then changes in the kilo would change the conversion ratio, which would lead to a grain being equivalent to something other than 64.78981g.

Until you can show that this is the case, I'm not sure you can say either one is based on the other. At the moment all we know is they can be converted from one system of weight to another, which makes sense regardless.

Actually, US units are indeed derived from metric ones now. Their values have been defined as such-and-such relation to the metric units for a while.

That is evidence. Thanks. Smile

So I got the invite for WS stress test (am I allowed to say that under NDA? I don't even know) and I will use that to see if WS is worth it, despite sort of having lost interest in it due to its shallow character design and WoW-esque quests.

Luckily I will always have GW2.

GOG is giving away the original Dungeon Keeper until 10:59 Saturday (GMT).
Maybe somebody at EA is trying to make up for their greedfisted handling of the remake... or maybe GOG is just trying to make a point by capitalizing on it.

WildStar's final verdict: Thanks but no thanks.

I'm not going to spend 60 + 15 bucks each month on what there is now, what might come later and the extremely boring questing that plagues the whole game.

The devs are listening perhaps but are they responding? Or is the publisher holding them back? All in all, I was not impressed. I'd grab this game if it were F2P with cash shop or BuyOnce2Play and only because I'm just waiting for other awesome games (Age of Wonders III, Dragon Age Inq and so on) to come out.

I'm not going as far as to say it's a WoW clone but it's also not the next MMO. It's just a big bag of meh.

In other more exciting news: http://ageofwonders.com/classes/archdruid/

Yay! I need this class!

I broke down and got Bravely Default. It's actually really fun so far? I like the fighting system. One of the good guys is kinda skeevy but he at least keeps getting called out on it. Like, one character is flat out "I don't like him he's gross" and the other one is like "Yeeeeah but he is useful." One of the bad guys was majorly sexist but he was a minor bad guy and beating him into the dirt was kind of cathartic.

I'm not very far in yet, though, we'll see where it goes from here.

I watched half an hour of Bravely Default on YToob and found it hard to get past the huge walls of explanation. I hope it gets better later on.
