What with all the pony lately I haven't been hitting up OC Remix as much. Decided to remedy that last night.
I'm not a huge gamer, even less so than before these days, so I tend to stick with a limited number of franchises when looking for remixes. I also tend to favor orchestral and rock arrangements far more than electronic or chiptune. Kind of picky, right? Still, I managed to pluck out a few gems from the last year or so of mixes.
Here's a somewhat-jazzy suite for piano and violin, basically covering all of the original Metroid game.
An outright jazzier rendition of Ken's stage theme.
An orchestral arrangement that incorporates some of the more recognizable tunes from Cave Story.
A suitably creepy and emotional symphonic piece for Majora's Mask.
A metal mix for Final Fantasy 7 inspired by the theme that plays in the lost capital.

I've been listening to a lot of Kleinkunst lately. In Flanders, this basically comes down to songs sung in Dutch or one of its dialects, often acoustic or symphonic and with a focus on the text. So this post is kinda useless to 90% of the forum. Enjoy!

Jan De Wilde - De Fanfare van Honger en Dorst. This is the one that started my sudden interest. I mentioned the swan song cantus in two other threads and this was one of the songs sung by a friend of mine. And frankly, a friend of everyone. He's the kind of person that nobody can hate. And he sang this song, playing the guitar while he did. The title roughly translates to 'The marching band of hunger and thirst'. It's a song about a group of friends, students, in Ghent, about their time together and their inevitable end when they all settle down. 'We've paid the price dearly/the price of freedom in exchange for some money/a job at the bank, a car, a child'. It ends with 'But somewhere else in the city, a new fanfare sings/a new fanfare of hunger and thirst'. Incredibly fitting for the occasion and just beautiful.

Liesbeth List and Ramses Shaffy - Pastorale. 1969, man. This is one of the most famous Flemish songs and has been covered countless times. But this is the original and if you watch any of these clips, watch this one. It's just so... It's 1969.
