| The only actual Plato I've read was The Republic. |

| I enjoyed reading Protagoras the most, but my Euthyphro, Apology, & Crito combination is my favorite. |

I wanted to bring parts of Protagoras into the conversation because in it Socrates and Protagoras discuss the nature of virtue and whether it is inherent or learned. Unfortunately, my copy of Protagoras & Meno is 90 miles away for the next two weeks. I was hoping to just say, "remember that?" and you'd all go, "Oh yeah!" Ah well.

Oh yeah!
Socrates says virtue can't be taught. If it can be, then teachers and students of virtue should exist. The man who is virtuous should be able to teach virtue, but no such teachers can be found.
Is that what you were talking about? |

I am totally a teacher of virtue.*
Yeyah. Guess that fucks THAT little argument up.
I'm not actually a teacher of virtue, just a practicer. I think. _________________ "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."

OT, perhaps, but I'm selling this:
(not mint condition, as you'll see).
That's a 1893 copy of the Pheadrus, Lysis & Protogoras, published by McMillan.
A little frayed, but not too much.
Of course, some stupid cunt tore out part of the flyleaf, and spilt coffee or something on it. (Not me).
Pm if you can give it a good home for a few dollars. |

Yeah. Unfortunately, modern psychology disputes the majority of that. A portion of your personality is defined by genetics, but a sizable portion is also learned.
That being the case... I still have no issues with the Bible, merely a small but unfortunately vocal group of its believers. _________________ "Worse comes to worst, my people come first, but my tribe lives on every country on earth. | I think that virtue can be taught, but not as in school lessons. It would have to be taught by example and the person being the example is someone the, for lack of a better term, Student must look up to and respect. |

Right on, Pete. Right on.
But to add my two cents, that's the right principle. Sometimes you see kids growing up nowadays and may think "what a disrespectful little brat" and so on. Some want to blame it on the kids, some on the schools, and some on the parents. I can't help but think, Ok, so where did the responsibility go? And where's Wheels so that he can give me a memorable quip for this? _________________ Make me. |
