The upper administration of the university called me up and offered to fix a problem my group of labs has been having. It requires a certain level of sacrifice on their part. When I expressed my pleasure and appreciation, they said, "no, no... we've been trying to think of a way to express our gratitude for the great job you've been doing leading the group and being our favorite person!"

And you thought athletes got all the love. Are they building you a stadium with scientist-only facilities?

Well, they are expressing love for my work administering a group of labs, not for my research. So no new ground broken there. The group of labs had run up a $2M debt over the past 10 years. I came in last year, reorganized some things, convinced some other group to take on costs that were more appropriately paid by them, and now the debt is $700k and we'll completely pay it off in a few years.

That's a pretty impressive turn around in debt in a year, no wonder they're impressed with you. The way to an administrator's heart is through their bottom line.

I got a raise! Thanks to bad math, I thought it was a dollar and a half raise - which would have been unheard of. Alas it wasn't that much, but still a good chunk of change. Smile

Took the plunge and cooked a live lobster for a lobster mac 'n cheese dinner for my wife for Mother's day. Turned out to be delicious!

I think the lobster took the plunge. Did it squeal?

Apparently my enthusiasm for the opening of Star Trek is so infectious I've inspired five other people to join me, one of whom will be attending as a Gorn and the rest of whom will be dressed as some sort of officer or another.

I am a terrible terrible influence and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Okay, but only if you all sit down in the theater chair like Riker. Wink

Hahaha, just be careful because some of those theater seats can have rather high backs. Don't pull a muscle or kick someone in the head. Razz

Cleaning out some old storage areas at work I happened upon some very old floppies which might have included setup disks for DOS 3.21, Adobe Illustrator 4 and Windows 1.0.
